Very sad, but really good. So far as I can tell (Sylvia only shows up once, really) she's in character... well, they way you've portrayed her makes sense. One thing though, is that Walter's supposed to have brown eyes.

This is really good. I really sympathized with Walter's mother, and I felt sorry for the both of them and how horrid their lives were. And, I love your writing style. Very good.
