The idea that Marie could even slightly diminish his want to leave should tell you something about the way he feels.

Awesome story. You should write a sequal

I really liked how you worded this it makes the story different than all the others. There's no prolonged pity party and it's more like resignation to the fact that one day he might just stay. Most of the other stories make it sound like he's fighting it tooth and nail but I don't think Wolverine would. It might just take some time to wrap his mind around it, like you said.
