Okay, I don't know why this suddenly picked this moment to bother me, but I'll bring it up anyway. Why, when you finished this story and realized that it named no names, made no reference to any specifically Rowlingian situation, and in general had no characteristic that identified it as ff - why did you then post it on this site, instead of trying to publish it in some mainstream venue?

And it's not just you. I've seen dozens of people do this. So if you could explain the thought process to me, I would be genuinely grateful.
