2009-09-04 . chapter 5
oh my GAWSH. I hate the real Batman and Superman

I've totally said that and felt that before in life about Batman, but about SUPERMAN? no! "Ned" killed me. and I know that Clark was trying to be a nice guy - and really, there's no way that he could know that Robot Superman IS him (your "Sometimes at night he would sit at the computer and write" was magnificent), but no - oh wait, Clark never asked him! And he only accidentally asked him! My heart is kind of broken.

Maybe I am over-reacting, and I am sure that if you had continued that scene (you literally wrenched my heart out of my chest with their conversation about Lois), real Superman would have something to say to Robot Superman that would solve all of their problems. But he DIDN'T, or else you would have mentioned it. WAHH! Duny! Why do I feel this way?? Why is real Superman skirting the issue? Why isn't he PERFECT?

Other than this omg-omg-omg thing going on, the chapter was really really nice. Funny in the right places, and so so so sad and beautiful. Oh wait, and CRUEL! Real Batman calling on Ned, ew what a jerkface. And Robot Batman is also a jerkface, but I"m glad he's coming back.

This review lacks all coherency because A: I am only five hours through a ten hour layover in Hong Kong right now, B: I haven't slept much in the last twenty four hours, C: I am wondering where you have been for the last almost-month, and D: you're killin me with this story! Your brain is awesome

I have a confession to make: I read the next chapter without leaving you a review for this chapter first. This means that I am now even more obsessed with this story because you are going all out! I love that!

To me, the Dunyazade whose stories I started reading a year ago had these excellent one-shots in which she would take one pivotal emotional scene and explore the crap out of it in really witty and enjoyable ways. But lately, you've started adding some nail-biting page-turning plots without compromising the original "let me tell you *all* about Clark and Bruce (and now Dick too hehe)." I don't have the capacity to praise beyond the words "awesome" and "nice," so I want you to have both!!

Anyway, you nailed GL! He always held his own in the cartoons against Batman, and obviously everyone hearts Superman and doesn't *need* to be aggressive with him because he will take a step back to accommodate his friends. But when Superman is a man on a mission, nobody better mess with him - as is the case here - but GL is just as determined - ok cut the babble, but I really got a "clash of the titans" kind of thing here, so nicely done.

They shared the same dream! and it was such an adorable one! and their reactions to discovering this were really sweet. And them making a kill chip together! I think the amount of trust, care, and mutual admiration they have for each other are insane. Which is why the ending of the next chapter made me squirm (literally!). Onwards!

Duny! WOW. Let me tell you straightaway what I like the most - you've totally forged distinct personalities for the bots - they're similar enough to their real counterparts, but not by too much! They stand alone, and it's enough to make the eventual meeting up of the four insanely unpredictable even in terms of how they will interact and react to each other. I've said it before, and I'll say it again: SKILLS. or skillz? I forgot which one I prefer.

The references to Alfred, Dick, and Tim were really great (especially for the first two) - Batbot's reactions to seeing them got me a little almost-sniffly.

And OK, normally it's Batman who I want to knock some sense into and never Superman, but in this case, it's the other way around. Dude, Clark, let Bruce do what he gotta do! I mean that's some serious true love, yes, which I like, but ah! the suspense!

For a story with such down to earth and well-placed humor, something about it has me kind of devastated. Especially in this last chapter - I'm angry at Kara for treating Robo Clark like an object, and I'm angry at the real Superman for sympathizing but not doing anything about it. I mean - "Ned"? It's comically dehumanizing.

"Let me out, Clark. And we'll make it right." If I were Robo Clark, I'd be convinced too.

I've read a couple of your other stories too, and I have to say - I hope you get published. I don't know if you plan on pursuing a writing career, or if you already have one, but I find your voice utterly satisfying. What does it for me is your blend of humor and pathos. The two are perfectly balanced, but it's more than that - it's as though one could not exist without the other. One is made more provocative, more meaningful, by the other's presence. This to me is what the human condition is all about. And believe me, I never thought I'd say that about a fanfic.

Darn you, Dunyazade! No one, NO ONE, messes with my head's moral absolutes like you do. I know taking out the Bat-bot was the right thing to do, but it just SHOULDN'T be wrong. D8 I seriously, really felt sick during that scene, and somehow I can't be too dismayed about the ending either.

But anyway...You know, I really think they're all going about this the wrong way. Alfred was perfectly safe, and talked to the Batbot like it was really Batman. I think that, if things came down to it, the bot really wouldn't be able to bring itself to harm any of the people he knows. That's a part of being sentient, after all - programming or no, sentience indicates free will.

Dang it all, what timing! If the real Superman and Bats had come on-screen in time to see Alfred hugging the poor Bot (squee) they might not have over-reacted. :(

That aside, I think it's interesting that even a Batcave priority one lockdown can't hold Superman, when we know Batman COULD make it strong enough or deadly enough to. That's what I'd call trust, whether he wants to admit it or not. ^^

But back to the panic in the cave, that was PAINFUL to read. *sniffle* I hope before the end of the story they'll at least refer to the robots as people and not "this one" or even Ned, lol. *smacks the real Bruce* And, for what it's worth and for ONCE in my life, I agree with Wally. Keeping him at the Fortress IS creepy.

Darn it, nobody could be angry with the poor Superbot letting Bruce-bot out, not after having to watch the poor uy cry because he's sad and lonely! Surely the real heores would be able to see that?

But...if the Superbot indeed has become entirely sentient with emotions and the sure feeling of right and wrong...then he'll know what Bruce is planning to do is wrong...and being fully Superman, he'll know he has to stop it himself...and why do I keep coming back to those two kill chips that the real heroes conveniently didn't find on the bot's body? *hopes shes is wrong*

*realizes she is now babbling and shuts up*

Anyhow, this is my new favorite story ever! Looking forward to more!

...you're making me cry with this fic, you know? It's so sad... which makes it so good...

Oh, my goodness.

I'm going from "Wow!" to "Aw!" to "Yay!" to "Oh, no!" to "Aw..." to "Eep!"

Fair to say my reactions are all over the place.

Well, I wasn't expecting Batman to take out Bat-bot, though I suppose I should have been.

And poor Ned - though why "Ned"?

And I *knew* Bat-bot wouldn't go that easily!

So all that's left to do is see if he's going to try to take over the world, or if he's going to leave for another planet with Super-bot, or what is going to happen next, which I have no idea what to expect, except it'll be great!

Oh, I don't know what to say (apart from moremoremore! write faster! but that's not fair).

So Batbot is going to do the honorable thing - maybe? Two killchips? Is one for a backup in case the first doesn't work, or is it for Superbot?

And I love how you avoided the pitfall of mushiness by immediately switching from the shared dream of Clark-bot and Bruce-bot to having Bat-bot immediately start plotting about how he could use this link to achieve his ends of taking over Clark, infiltrating the League and replacing them with robot facsimiles.

"Evil-Batbot-Minion Number One." I love that bit!

"And I wouldn’t want to be Superman if I couldn’t be Clark too."

That line just perfectly sums up Clark, doesn't it? :-)

2009-07-09 . chapter 4
That first bit was so sad - seriously, if the robot can DREAM, then he's alive for heaven's sake. It is too cute though that his first instinct for comfort is to go find Clark rather than returning to bed and brooding (in that way maybe he's an improvement on the real Batman. :)

Aw, the JLU GL! I always loved the way John took care of Kara in the animated series, and I'm so glad you put him in here! And I also like how even a robot Superman can be forceful enough that no one except maybe the real Superman and Batman can stand up against him. But seriously - surely there's another dimension out there that could use both of them? :(

And for some reason the center-of-gravity thing with Kara as opposed to Clark never occurred to me before now - but that's the kind of detail I love about your stories. :)

But wait...synched up computers when they're asleep? Yeah, the Bruce-bot could use that to his advantage...but then doesn't that mean it could work both ways? I know I'm trying to convince myself that there's a way out of this without killing the bots, but seriously! :( I don't think the Bruce-bot is exploring all his options here. *sniff-sigh*

"“What are you doing now?” he asked, in a way that would have been annoying if it hadn’t been Bruce’s last day on earth." -- That is so sad. And so is the heartbreaking reversal of roles here - the real Superman gave the real Batman Kryptonite, and the Bat-bot basically doing the same thing with the chip.

I can't stand moping Clark, even if he is a robot - Bruce-bot's heart has to be made of stronger stuff than silicon if he can go through with this, knowing what it's going to do to the Superbot. And on that topic...why do I keep having this really, really bad feeling about that second kill chip? *rather hopes she is wrong*

Awesome chapter as usual, and I know even if you do kill them it will still be a wonderful story - so I look forward to more! THank you!

Ah, dear God, a robot should not be so adorable!

I love your Superman, and your Superbot, to bits.

Batbot wanting to take over the world by replacing us all with an Invincible Robot Army and shoving us into stasis - well, apart from the minor detail of how the heck do you put six billion or so people into stasis, he could do it!

Actually, he'd probably build a lunar base to accommodate the suspended animation population of Earth, while he's at it. Thank heavens sweet, moral, upright Clark-bot is there to stop him - and that even Batbot cannot resist Super-puppyeyes! :-)

2009-06-15 . chapter 3
Woot for Earl Grey! I wonder if that's what they were drinking in that JLU episode where they were tracing Mercy's call to Dr. Ivo's mansion... Anyhow. :)

First of all, "A sad, selfish thought occurred to him. “…I’m not enough?”
“You’re perfect,” Bruce assured him, viciously ripping the wires out..."

MUST you be so adorably squee-worthy? I embarrass myself sometimes when I read your stories when there are people around. ^^ And the bit about looking up all their doubles' pasts and so on was so sweet - Lois, Dick, Tim, everybody from all the DCUs that we love, all in one chapter. *more squee*

But WHOA THERE, Bruce-bot, hold on a second. The fact that you can *recognize* something is wrong means you ARE sentient, and at least you were programmed with ethics or basic morals - I think you sell yourself short a little with the whole "I can't change my programming ever and I'm going to destroy the world as we know it if let to myself" bit. And besides, I'm pretty sure that physically the Superbot could keep you from doing harm if it came down to it...*is desperately grasping at straws here* For heaven's sake, surely the World's Smartest Detective could think up some alternate program or some virus to just target the HARDAC programming to kill?? Plz?

*whimper*

And anyhow, robot or not, I'm not so sure the Bruce-bot COULD take them both out. Himself, maybe - but somehow I don't think he could really bring himself to "kill" (shudder) the Superbot. I mean, sheesh, it would be like putting a puppy (with impossibly blue puppy eyes) to sleep because of illness or something. :(

There has to be some other way. Right? *hopeful*

*sniffle*

Don't get me wrong, I loved the chapter - I just love the two robots a little too much, methinks. :) 'S just I would hope the real Superman and Batman, if that's who they are really worried about, would at least want them to think it all the way through before doing something that drastic.
