I felt so bad for Severus all throughout this chapter.

After the fact that Albus was practically torturing him; he still sought his approval and forgiveness.

I may or may not have had to wipe away a few stubborn tears from my eyes.

Poor Severus.

And you were so bloody brilliant at getting inside his head, too!

The thing about 'If only he was calling me James; and it was James who was taking this punishment' was amazingly sad and heart-wrenching.

Gah, Albus is upsetting me here. James Potter could have dismembered Severus in the great hall at breakfast, and all Albus would have done is proverbially cheer him on.

Severus had every right to be upset and curse James's homework.

I would have done the same exact thing.

This can explain why he's so cold and why he doesn't open up to anyone.

Even though Dumbledore WAS tortured, which isn't a good thing, he had no right to take it out on Severus. After all, it wasn't Severus who tortured.

And at the part where he was healing him, the way Severus was thinking was so sad!

Those words will haunt me for a while. 'He loves me, he cares for me. He does, he's healing me'.

That is one of the saddest things I've ever read.

How dare Albus use some cane that wasn't even the school cane on Severus? I'm sure that wouldn't have happened, had it been Potter.

It's so sad that he told Severus that he had potential, and then forgot all about it when he was sorted into Slytherin.

And then, all Albus has to say is 'Get up', and poor Severus is STILL seeking his affection, approval, and love.

The insolence. Insolence. My ass.

Albus is a manipulative bastard that needs to slapped. With a shoe.

That sounded a tad harsh, but after what he put Severus Snape through; it's fitting.

I agree with others that this was difficult to read; I had to get up a few times to pace around angrily. The end of Chapter 2 in particular conveys beautifully Snape's desperate situation, when he is forced to obliviate the cruel masses. There is this sense that he cannot count on decent treatment from an adult and this permeates the rest of his life. One thing I was curious about in this dark Hogwarts universe is how the other teachers such as McGonagall or Slughorn would have treated Snape and to what extent they would have gone along with Dumbledore's brutal punishment.

i must say love how Snape thinks of Molly. He's so condescending but in a sweet (well better word for snape would be fond) way. i really enjoyed this fic. good job

But of course James will always get off scot-free, even if he tortured Snape in the Great Hall in front of Dumbledore himself. Severus ought to realize that and leave that hell-hole-life with a broken wand would be preferable to this. He'll die of Dumbledore's love of torture pretty soon now, because I suspect that Albus will get too wrapped up in his glory to notice his subject is dead.

Oh, excellently done. Dumbledore here so dark, it actually reminded me of the false Moody of Goblet. So similar, and yet, so dark, so something's-off from what you're expecting.

And I loved Molly and Arthur! I'm actually writing a courtship story about them at the moment (inspired by Molly's comments at the end of Goblet about their 4am stroll and Arthur still having the marks, ironically enough), so it was especially odd to see them here together. They're not usual choices for stories set at Hogwarts, so I was delighted.

Ah...yes, I think it's been many a year since I've seen a good Severus/Arthur friendship fic. Those two are grand characters. :)

So we must now give our thanks, that in this universe, where Dumbledore was twisted into cruelty and savagery, it was arranged that a boy named Arthur Weasley and a girl named Molly Prewitt were born perhaps a decade later, and were there at Hogwarts to compensate for the dark wound of this Dumbledore's twisted soul. And a dark, angry, hurt young man named Severus Snape learns enough of kindness to turn a corner our more familiar worl;d never let him truly pass around.

Lovely, lovely stuff.

Good for Snape! Although Dumbledore will just beat him again, just because he can, even if the Prewetts are saved-and then his own Slytherins will kill him for being a blood-traitor. We all know what _his_ reward will always be.

But then, there is a place where he _will_ be rewarded, by One who sees the heart, not the House.
