Well...maybe you, Stephen; but the rest of us would be reading all that dull, rational, logical...brilliantly conceived, imaginative, tautly plotted, insightfully characterized stuff, like Gafney's Girl Days, or Krista Perry's Hearts of Ice, Gallagos/Tai's Daigakusei no Ranma, or Chris Jones' Ranma's Apartment, or Lord Archive's Second Chances, or Alan Harnum's Waters Under Earth, or Mike L's The Varaiyah Cycle, or DB Sommer's Shampoo 1/2, or Joseph Palmer's Colors series. "Please understand that individuals like this take some of their time to provide us with some fun. Your tasteless comments take some of away, but I wonder if you can or are writing fanfiction yourself." So by that logic, if a person designs a building you don't like, you have to be silent, because you're not an architect; and if you're not an Italian cook, you have no business commenting on the quality of respective Italian restaurants. An interesting perspective--but faulty. ;) Tasteless comments...? When you learn in junior high the difference between a respectfully presented criticism and a flame, let's talk again. With all due, To the two flamers (Saggit and Laqjr), are either of you two composers of Ranma fanfiction, if so don't give up your day jobs. As critics, you do even worse. Saggit 2001-12-24 ch 1, anon.	abuseLaqir, with respect, I think you're missing the context. Ranma reacting in pain when he's got a major open wound poked is one thing. Ranma whimpering when he has to refer to how badly his love life is going with Akane--well, I think we'd both agree that's severely out-of-character. And that's my point, after all: it's simply something Ranma would never do, within the context of canon. And like I wrote, I have no problems at all with major divergence from canon, as long as an introduction rationally explains how things have arrived at the current point.
Laqjr 2001-12-23 ch 1,	abuseFirst off, I disagree with Saggit on the point that Ranma doesn't whimper. Time and time again, Ranma has been shown in the manga and the anime to be wounded and then say he was fine. Just about every time he or another character says this, another character would usually poke the wound and the character will hunch up and whimper and whine. Tears even come from their eyes! Now, as to the actual context of the story, this is what I read (this is a flame, of sorts): The setting is after Ranma defeated Saffron. Ranma gets into a big fight with his rivals while Akane and Ranma's other fiancées duke it out not so far away from them. Once they finish fighting, Ranma turns to Akane, who simply says, 'I hate you,' then walks off. Ranma, hearing these words, turns around and runs away crying his heart out, then crashes into Beldandy. When he hears a woman's voice, he cries out, 'She hates me! The woman I love hates me!' all because Akane said, 'I hate you' after she had just finished fighting Ranma's fiancées off. So Belldandy takes Ranma home and dumps him on a bed, then calls Kamisama (I use an i rather than an e), who tells her Ranma must get a wish. Points to take note of: 1) Akane, who is angry (she's cold-blooded and is not filled with hot white rage, or something), simply tells Ranma, 'I hate you.' This contrasts her personality, as what Akane usually does after fighting off Ranma's fiancées is start an argument with Ranma about how he is a pervert or some other engagement-related subject. 2) Ranma runs off wailing and crying, not watching where he's going, after Akane tells him she hates him. This contrasts his personality, as whenever something even remotely similar happens, Ranma doesn't think about how he's done this or that; instead he thinks of why Akane would say what she said or do what she did, and whether it had anything to do with what he was doing. If he thinks it was because Akane had simply gotten mad over something that happened to her in the day, Ranma would simply say, 'Stupid Akane', 'Uncute tomboy', or some other related statement. If Ranma thinks it was because of something he did, he would proceed to make some elaborate plan to explain to Akane how what he did was necessary or the right thing to do, and then he would fail to execute his plan properly. All other OOC problems are either related to the two noted above, or partain to the AMG series, and I'm not well versed in its canon. ——Laqjr
