When I saw the trailers for ST XI I actually thought the guy who talked to Kirk about his father would be Captain April, not Captain Pike. I had "Final Frontier" as big part of Trek history in my mind, and I was a bit disappointed it turned out so different. But I like your ideas of *why* is turned out so different and how much more lives where changed (for worse). An very interesting idea, I hope you keep it going!
