This was lovely. You've offered beautifully nuanced portrayals of both Tom and Laura. I love how Laura never loses her humanity. Despite everything that happens between them, she is still able to see the good in Tom Zarek. As for Tom, he displays surprising compassion. Thank you for an engaging and thought-provoking fic.
