Oh, my, it's so difficult to find some fic about the ancestor!! Seems that everyone is a bit scared of writing about such a mistery or about such a cruel and bloody age... when I LOVE IT! And your writing is exquisit, it matches perfectly the way I portrayed the ancestor speaking, too.
Loved little Asato, always a traitor, and the curse he received (suffer, suffer!!). And, of course, the sand, as that flashback from little Kaname. I wrote a similar flashback with the ancestor over the sand.
Um, although I have a doubt. So, according to you theory, the ancestor's body it's still somewhere, an empty shell without his soul?
I see that you have placed the story in a middle age setting, when, probably, the vampires appeared in what will be our present time, when humankind was at the verge of extinction after endless wars. So, VK is placed in a very distant future in our Earth.
As for the atmosphere you created, it made me remember Underworld: ryse of the Lycans: the ancient past of he vampires, living in a stronghold. The ancestor seemed to behave like a god, too, more precisely like a god that I adore: Tarod of Chaos. I don't know if you have read Louise Cooper's books, Master of Time.
