Poor Harry.

The thing is that if James really was a pureblood that Harry HAD to have had great and great great aunts and uncles and cousins and nieces and nephews, even if they weren't named Potter. We actually know from the Black family tree that a Black and a Potter married so Harry was related to Sirius and Draco and Tonks, somehow.

It's also highly unsatisfactory that JKR insists that his grandparents died of natural causes when witches and wizards are highly resistant to muggle diseases and there were two wars that they could have died in. Harry should at least be told the last name of his paternal grandmother and any siblings she may have had.

Since the goblins needs to know the succession and family trees of every house it makes sense that they would be able to help Harry with his family. Minerva was a follower of Dumbledore's. She wouldn't acknowledge that he manipulated anything.
