xerocooldown 2009-07-10 . chapter 2Good story so far. The Gaeta story always bothered me about Battlestar, I think it really showed the writers were getting lazy and looking for ways to shock the audience without really making any sense. Did he do anything that several others hadn't done in the past? Nope, yet he got executed for it. By that part of the season I was really hoping Adama and Roslin would both get pushed out an airlock. |
BEE 2009-07-04 . chapter 1 Great start to a story. I rarely make suggestions, but I want to suggest a rebuttal against Zarek if the opportunity arises: Adama haters (in the show and online) say he is held without charge, but he endangered the entire fleet by sending away the tylium ship at a time when they're on the run against half of a genocidal race of robots. "Endangering the fleet" is a valid charge. Maybe you should point out also Zarek's defense of the rapist in "Bastille Day" (to Apollo: "You did this, you made him a monster!" When the rapist was going to kill Cally: "You reap what you sow." I wish the opportunity had come up in the show to point out that even though Zarek said Roslin and Adama were dangling the hopes of Earth in front of the fleet, he was the one who suggested to Baltar to make settlement on New Caprica, which they actually knew was barely habitable unlike Earth, an election issue. Granted, only Baltar would know this, but it's entirely possible he told other people, and perhaps he could make note of this in his sermons upon hearing of Zarek's arrest.
Actions, not words, are often what wins hearts and minds. But I love a good rebuttal, and the above are things I wish were said in the show to remind the other characters what a scumbag Zarek was. And the fact that Ellen will return soon and tell the FInal Five that though they created the skinjobs, they did it to save humanity. You should look up the Final Five comic summary on Battlestar Wiki- lots of interesting tidbits, including the fact that Saul is the son of Pythia (who looks exactly like Starbuck and came back from the dead as she did, but seemingly passed of natural causes long before Tigh and Ellen ever met) and formerly the leader of the Thirteenth Tribe.
My favorite kind of AUs are ones hinged on characters knowing stuff they did not know before rather than taking different actions. I hope this fic has some of both. |
