twotoe 2009-11-10 . chapter 3I'm reviewing Hocus Pocus as I'm doing a round of rereading again on this one as I just finished, The Decisive Moment again-more rereading-and it reminded me just in tone of this story which I meant to review but didn't. It reminds me because something about this always bothered me. Not the story, but the fact that I find something worrisome in it, and I keep wondering if the guys are ever going to come to some sort of realization soon enough as they did in Decisive Moment.
This story is cute, thinking of Caleb with pink hair is funny and it is also cute that all these men, young and old, are slain by these two little girls, spoiling them extremely rotten. The amount of spoilage is debatable, perhaps a bit too much, but hopefully balanced somewhat by the women in the family. But the spoilage here, on the magic is another matter.
I can’t help but feel this is too much, that they are setting themselves up for a heap of trouble in the future. Some of the more problematic hunts they have had have had witches, the fact that you have humans doing evil of a supernatural variety and what lines those involve and how difficult it is to deal with. So it would seem that they would know more than most the dangers here. Spoiling them here and not taking a more responsible line is just dangerous. It is dangerous in the sense that you have two headstrong girls that seem to be given very few boundaries. They should never be doing spells on humans, doing spells on Caleb, no matter how cute and pink or funny. What are the repercussions of it for them as I’m not seeing it really? It is setting them up for a bunch of trouble that they may not have any control of down the road. It bothers me. The girls talking about the Brotherhood bothers me to, but that, hopefully, they are going to grow out of as they seemed slightly if genuinely contrite. The magic is just dangerous, to them and to everyone else, and I just don’t see anyone seeing it. I keep feeling that if they can do magic, and the obviously can, that a bit part of their education, and from the beginning, should be using it not only responsibly, but ethically. Doing a spell on someone is a factor, but doing any spell out of a sense of-well we'll call it revenge-even if that might be a bit of a stretch on the word- is not a good thing. How much of that have we seen in older witches that just didn't get what they wanted, no matter what it was? Or thinking they automatically had even a 'right' to everything they wanted in the first place? These girls aren't going to be hunters, but the way they are going so early here in this story makes me wonder if some day they are going to be things that are hunted. |
cornev 2009-09-11 . chapter 5Just read all the chapters you've got here and loved them! I seriously can't decide which is my favourite, though I may have to go with Caleb and the pink hair :)
I'm really liking the whole future, next generation thing you guys have going here with the brotherhood. Every character is so incredibly well thought out and consistent. Too often, OC's personalities jump around to suit the story. (Even though technically Caleb and Joshua aren't OC's, they are completely the brotherhood's as far as I'm concerned - they were just names Kripke threw in there and one quick shot of the guy getting his neck sliced, the brotherhood brought them to life.)
I can't decide which kid is my favourite also. I'm leaning towards Max coz he's gonna be the bad-attitude cocky guy, my favourite type :) But they are all wonderful. Seriously.
Really quirky about Victor Webster being Caleb on the CW. And to be working with KC-Ruby again. Too funny he's a gay character - its almost like a joke is being played on Caleb Reaves, isn't it? I find myself laughing imagining his chagrin. I know - Reality. Fanfiction. Need to distinguish :)
Anyway, thanks again for this great read.

AZGirl 2009-08-25 . chapter 4So glad I chose today to catch up on Supernatural fics... I was in a really crappy mood until I read this - thanks for another great story! |
Lilly B. 2009-08-20 . chapter 5great job on the story! i loved how dean handled JT and caleb. it was a great read. i'm sad to see the legacy stories go, but i am exicted to see what you have in store for us once the season starts! |
Nana56 2009-08-19 . chapter 5Hurt Dean, worried everybody. *sigh* Doesn't get much better than that. :D
I really admire Dean's constant comparing himself to John in his reactions to things, always trying to improve. I think he's a natural, tho. He'd already raised one boy.
Great chapter! :) |
rog457 2009-08-19 . chapter 5Great chapter. I love the stories with the next generation. It is wonderful to think that Dean finally finds some happiness, that he becomes the terrific father that everyone knew he would be. Great stuff about Caleb and Dean worrying about bringing up the next generation of hunters, and how to balance family and the responsibilities of being the Knight and the Guardian without making the same mistakes John made. |
Ingridmarie 2009-08-19 . chapter 5Great Chapter I really loved the interactions between Dean and his children! It was so interseting and believable! Great job! Please update soon. I heart the Character Ben! Looking forward to more chapters with him |
alwaysateen 2009-08-18 . chapter 2Sorry if I'm late in my review...
Finally Ben is home! It's sad that Lisa had to die for Ben to really know Dean was his father though. :( But everyone knew it so it's cool that he's there. :) |
ladie red 2009-08-18 . chapter 5Wow, I really loved this. It was just a little insight into parenting...albeit, Winchester/Brotherhood style. It was so normal and nice, I think what I like is that it is indeed a far cry from Dean's upbringing. Even thought there are still the big, evil harpys to fight, Dean's going about this the right way, the way John (although, don't get me wrong, I know John cared in his own way) should have done if not for his vendetta. A++ one of my favs from you Tidia, nice job! |
alwaysateen 2009-08-18 . chapter 5What an awesome story!
Thank you so much for the hurt!Dean part. :) I was wondering how their kids would react when one of their parents came home injured. Thanks a lot for that wonderful answer.
Dean is such a natural father, he has all the right answers and moves without even realise it! And his sons have inherited his empathy for others, all of them. :)
Caleb is a very cool uncle, too bad he's not a dad himself but I think his uncle job is plenty enough for him. :) |
Becomingwhaturmeantobe 2009-08-18 . chapter 5That was great. Caleb is great with the boys and I love how they're trying to do it differently. Awesome! |
LovinJackson 2009-08-18 . chapter 5It would definately be a learning curve wouldnt it. I mean for all of them. But I think they are doing an outstanding job. They have the chance to make a difference and already they have done a great job! I think their pasts have made them even better at handling the families now :) It's adorable and I loved Sam and his pigheaded opinion and research in making it so hunters with families didnt hunt ... that's so Sammy and so cute! Very awesome Job :)

gatorpez 2009-08-18 . chapter 5You know how much I love these stories of yours and Ridley's.
I love this fic and how Dean is with his sons. I love how he is honest with them (about what's out there, what he does and that he will keep doing it), but he doesn't order them around, he lets them be kids, and is giving them choices. Thanks for sharing! |
