secretfunnelcake. 2009-10-17 . chapter 1I've read this piece several times, and I'm not even sure why I haven't reviewed it yet because it's quite simply stunning. I love how you get glimpses of what Carly's mother was like but you never really see a whole lot of her and it's powerful in that way that the simple things Carly deals with that aren't as big of a deal to her are really kind of signs to the readers of a serious mental issue. I hope that made sense, because that's what I got out of it.
Spencer was...man, he was definately the Spencer I love. You did really well with his character, and I was amused that you included Socko.
The last part, with the sky? Simple genius. "the beautiful deceitful sky". I assumed that this was symbolizing her mother, which I loved because it was just so darn clever.
Last but definately not least, your writing. Beautiful. I loved how you described things and I guess just overall...
kudos. ;) I apologize for rambling. I felt bad for not reviewing sooner. :( You deserve a ton more reviews. |
Maria33 a.k.a. Rei Uzumaki 2009-09-07 . chapter 1I don't usually read iCarly fics or go to their catergory... BUT I REALLY wanted to see if someone had written a story about Carly's childhood with her mother or father along with Spencer. This is how I PERFECTLY imagined why Carly lived with Spencer because of either mother issues or father issues, so I liked this fic, A LOT. :3 The ending was cute, having Spencer catch Carly before she fell down.
Eer...keep up the good work~! |
Aslan is love 2009-08-11 . chapter 1great story and a great explantion of where their mom is write more stories like this please maybe chapter stories |
Flames of the Sun 2009-08-04 . chapter 1I hate the show. This, however, is amazing. <3 |
Crimson Soldier 2009-07-29 . chapter 1In my honest opinion, easily one of the best characterizations of not only Carly but Spencer as well, an in a much broader sense the Shay family as a whole. Two things I especially liked:
How the narrative flickers between past and present. The simplistic world seen through the eyes of young Carly is so familiar to any of us that still remembers what it's like being a kid that you feel that her situation hits all the more harder, and then the present day Carly as she comes to terms with these ghosts adds yet another level of poignancy.
Finally, the subtle, minimalist exposure to the mother. Like, how she never appears in the story proper, but is instead merely spoken of from a separate point of view. The story offers merely a glimpse of what she was like, her behaviors and mannerisms which hint towards an individual with a serious problem (who knows what exactly, but something), and while she's clearly an antagonistic force, at the same time her actions seem, while certainly not easily forgiven, or even sympathetic really, but...understandable maybe? I'm kind of a sucker for stories like that.
Anyway, good work with this! |
heartinakiln 2009-07-18 . chapter 1I really like this. I don't have much to say besides that, actually. This is just amazing. |
 Dragonfly8716 2009-07-08 . chapter 1Sad, but also hopeful.
Small Carly fending for herself breaks my heart. I love it when Spencer is the loving, responsible big brother. |
Smart Alex 2009-07-06 . chapter 1-Ouch.- This was painful, and real, and heartbreakingly gorgeous. I loved the spontaneous invention of spaghetti tacos, and Spencer's attempts to make it better (and catching Carly at the end), and Carly's bewilderment (and Blue's Clues, omg ;;). Stories that try to explain the missing parents are always sad, but this one is sad and really, really well done. |
Whirlwind18 2009-07-05 . chapter 1So, so beautiful. i love the way you characterize Carly- she can be a little hard to pin down sometimes in the show, so I think it's brilliant when people write about her. it's so much rarer to read a good piece about Carly than one about Sam or Freddie, but you've done it so well here.
I think this was one of my favorite paragraphs:
The thought scrawls itself across the inside of her mind at the end of every iCarly, right before Sam says something demeaning to Freddie and they all go downstairs to comment on Spencer’s latest sculpture, drinking Peppy Cola from bright plastic cups. She shoves it away each time, refusing to think that maybe, just maybe, somewhere in the country, on the bright sandy beaches of Florida or in a tall bland skyscraper that juts out on the New York skyline, there is a woman with remarkably slender hands and a cigarette in her mouth because she just can’t kick the habit, logging onto the website of the most popular web show in Washington.
But, Carly reminds herself, giving well-timed laughs at Sam’s jokes and downing her Peppy Cola – that’s just a fantasy.
It's perfect. Awesome job :) |
SquishyCool 2009-07-04 . chapter 1Wow... I also wanna saw "aww!"
This is a truly amazing story. I really loved it. I love the kind of character you made Carly and Spencer's mom out to be, and I also love how you portrayed Spencer. They both seemed perfect and in place. And everything seemed to just fit together so perfectly.
This is written really well, too. I love how you wrote it.
And just... wow. What else can I say?? I always love to hear other people's takes on what happened to Carly and Spencer's mom, and this really went into detail, and I love that. This is one of the best I've ever read, no doubt.
The ending is the best, too. I love how it ties in with the theme and how it's a metaphor at the same time. |
