Wow. I love the insight into his character that you can see with the words that he didn't end up including. This is a very well written piece that expresses his feelings exceptionally and keeps very close to his character as introduced in the books. Well done.

I hope you can finish this properly--isn't it always Snape's fate to be rejected by those he cares for? At least it is in canon. I hope for better in fanfiction.

I take it from the title, Hermione never actually read the letter. Which is a shame, because you've captured the innermost essence of Severus Snape: the person below the hard exterior and all those sneers. And if you put this letter in the framework of Snape's cannon demise, it makes it even more poignant.
I like how you've put the erasures in parentases, (it makes the letter more human) but when he has crossed out a whole phrase, I might put the whole phrase in one parenthase, instead of each word having seperate parenthases. But it's a minor thing.
Very clever: a flawless execution of a great idea.

What a lovely letter - I enjoyed the Pride and Prejudice quotes and the way you worked them in. Placing alternate phrasings into brackets was a really interesting idea, as well - I like the way it opens up and clarifies the meaning of Severus' thoughts.

This was a lovely, angsty read. I can't help but wonder whether Hermione is feeling as Severus thinks she is or if something else was on her mind when he proposed. Great piece and glad to know you're alive. ;) Cheers.
