That was an amusing lil fic, though i don't quite agree on your animagus reasoning.

Why? you ask... 1) it would have been mentioned, 2) james, peter and sirius became animagus to help remus. Therefor remus didn't need to become an animagus. 3) Remus tends to be the person to "go by the rules. Although he didn't object to james, peter, and sirius become animagus' and their nightime wanderings, this was because he was happy to finally have friends. I just can't see him, though, becoming an illegal animagus.

But that's all just my reasoning, I could very well be wrong (hasn't happened recently, but i could be) :)
