 Violin Ghost 2009-08-29 . chapter 1Oh. OH.
When I first read the summary, I thought, "Hey, that WOULD be interesting, wouldn't it, Ivriniel coming for a visit." I was expecting an amusing story full of little instances between Ivriniel and the household of Rohan. And it was, but it was so much more than that.
I love, first of all, that Ivriniel isn't an annoying, "evil" sort of aunt as she's usually portrayed. She's firm and no-nonsense, maybe a little sharp, but decent and kind. That was a nice change. But the ending... the ending tore me up, especially Eomer's line, which, by the way, I wholeheartedly agree with. The only vaguely sorrowful note you used to end the story was perfect, really.
This is one of my favorite pieces written by you - brava. |
WendWriter 2009-08-29 . chapter 1I'm so glad I've got you on alert. This is a lovely rollercoaster of a story, and the characters are beautifully realised. I found I believed in the scenarios presented here and that the ending scenes were very moving.
I grew fond of the batty old aunt and her pernickety ways, and felt a bit sad when she passed on - as if she was real! Nice work.
Added to the Archives of Excellence's Elfwine Chronicles page, where it belongs. :D
“I thought she never left her home, other than occasionally to places very nearby.”
“Certainly she will liven things!”
she had merely smiled rather than attempted to refute his claims. |
