You know, I read this when you first published it a week ago, and it just rocked me thoroughly... it was hard to believe how much, even, given how long ago this book came out -- but that, of course, is a testament to your writing, Katy, as always.

I love Lee. I always have. And I love the way you've portrayed him here. He was one of the people it had to be the hardest to be during that time, I would think. It's easy to forget the friends when you're so focused on the family, I think, but Lee is almost a Weasley given his closeness to the twins, and that's so clear in this story.

I loved the structure, too, as you moved days, months and finally a year away. It does get slightly easier, of course -- but it never really goes away. Brilliant job, as usual.

I have chills! Poor Lee. He's often overlooked durring this time because George has lost his twin but Lee's lost his best friend. Well done!

Like I said before, I absolutely adore this. The perspective is so completely different from what we usually get--I feel like too often people focus on George after the war and we forget that Fred had friends and that they were just as affected by his death as George was. Beautiful work. I love the time increments, the repetition of "It is...however many days/months/years after the battle." Lovely job and thank you for sharing!

This was heartbreaking. Especially this line broke me: "But he makes the mistake of looking at George at the graveside, and that is when he falls apart." I could just picture that. I also really like the first part, about how he doesn't remember his reaction at first, but having been told he cried out...

It was a great story. More stories need to be written about Lee, I think.
