aww this was absolutely amazing i very much enjoyed reading this.

Won't you ever finish the sequel? I want to know what Margaret is going to do about that - erm, I'd better hush up now before I spoil it for anybody else!

This is still far and away my favorite "Satine's giving birth" chapter I've read of any in this catagory - I hope that doesn't sound like faint praise because it's not meant to be! It's not often to find a MR writer facing the fact that childbirth was indeed a dangerous and difficult situation in those days (in fact the leading cause of death amoungst women before the modern medical era if I'm not mistaken.) And you write it so well, I'm white-knuckled myself wondering if she'll survive it!

I love the way that Satine dislikes being pregnant - so much more realistic than the usual "rosy glow" depiction of pregnancy. And the conversations between the spouses here is just so spot-on and real; one has the sense that these two people love each other enough to be able to tease one another. Just lovely. (And I have to admit, that the fact that there aren't any song lyrics here makes this a favorite chapter of mine - not that you don't choose appropriate lyrics, but I prefer to read your words, which are so so powerful on their own, to someone else's lyrics.)

I cannot believe I've never left a review all these times I've read this fic, even to say "good show" or OMG!...

Toulouse's metaphor of the hatrack in the dark is just one particularly brilliant and memorable touch in a an overall wonderful fic - still one of the best in the catagory and one of only two or three (perhaps)really lovely and plausible "Satine lives" stories. You've made a real married couple of the two of them, whicih separates this story from those where all the lovers problems come from outside obstacles. The two confict scenes are what really caught my attention when I first read this story almost two years ago and are still excellent and realistic and capture the truth of the sudden and unreasonable ways in which we inflict hurts upon those we love most(as I can attest after nine years with my sweetie!)

You never have finished your sequel and I understand how sometimes stories just refuse to finish themselves but I often find myself rereading that story too (as well as your beautiful and brilliant shorts, esp. Faded Diamonds and Convalescence - forgive the misspelling!) I'm always up for anything that comes from your pen!

Wow! I just read this whole story today and it is quite frankly the most extraordinary thing I have ever read in my life! The imagegery and emotion that was put into it! This is deffinatly one of the best things I have read... oh it was so painful to read their arguments (as I love them as a couple) but you made it plausable. And I love how Toulouse said " In the darknes the hat rack becomes a monster" that was so very like him! And I also adored their little reuinion when she came back from Monmatre...
Before I read this story I was planning up my own version of the famous "what if they flew" scenario but I don't know if I'll be able to do it now because it could never be half as wonderful as this one.
