aku blossom, dont be a fanboy. the show has hinted at brick being smarter than he lets on. in this story brick starts getting smart at the 6th grade and surpasses blossom by junior year in high school. thats 5 years of hard work. it's not like he just woke up and grew a brain.

Oh, wow. I'm floored. Have to say I haven't really ventured into this fandom much before, but this fic has changed my mind. Basically, I love it - the snarky banter, the fights, the way they got under each other's skin. I can't really pick a favorite scene, though when Brick throws "perspicacity" back at her is pretty amazing, and Him - I completely forgot how creepy and Krampus-like he was. Anyway, wonderful writing for my favorite Powerpuff.

I got the reference. And I'm not even questioning myself, because this is so darn cute and well rotten, I can't bother myself to care.

This fic deserves hundreds of reviews. The human motivations that you write clearly into these characters makes the whole thing come alive. 4.5 out of 5 stars.

beautiful.

Very nice story. It is also interesting to see things from Brick's point of view, but not smashed into your head as you read so you can draw your own conclusions to things if you squint hard enough.

It is completely and utterly unfair that you write so well. I have been writing for years and have been on this site for six/seven years and I STILL can't touch your skill. Reading your work, sbj, seriously gives me depression issues and makes me want to murder all the fics I have ever written XD

On a light, less depressing note, I cracked up whenever you mentioned Him baking cookies. For some reason I had this image in my head where he was near a stove, in a pink, frilly apron and juts the pan of cookies out to the Boys, one leg bent up. And then, again, when Him backs away from Blossom when she glares at him.

I truly adore your subtly about the evolving relationship between Brick and Blossom. I always had a problem with Brick being the 'dum' one and I had this image in my head where he gets irritated with Blossom's taunts, thus causing him to study. I am going to have to be creative with my story "Tear Me Down" because this was the direction I was going XD

Anyway, the scene where she bursts in and starts throwing a temper tantrum fits Blossom's personality. I love how in a roundabout way, she was almost telling Brick that he was giving up the fight. Pride is obviously a big factor in Blossom's personality and letting someone hand her a victory is not something she going to accept easily. If she's going to win, she's going to do it fair and with absolute victory. You exemplified that perfectly.

I snickered at some of their digs to each other. Their bickering - when not physically fighting - always had this aura of intellect in my mind. It would be passionate, smart and fierce.

I could go on and on about your skill and how amazing you are, but I think you already know that. I can't wait to read more from you and I, also, can't wait until you update "More Than Human"! You give me a big run for my money and I enjoy reading your work!

Ciao,

Me: WHY doesn't Brick like Blossom in this one? WHY doesn't Blossom like Brick in this one?

Brick: I...beat her. It's impossible. I beat the most smartest girl in the world...

Blossom: I know why you beat me Brick.

Brick: Huh?

Blossom: You beat me...because when you set your mind to something...you can do it...and you beat me...congratulations, Brick.

Blossom leaves.

Brick: Blossom, wait! I beat her. I've always wanted to. Now...this isn't worth it.

Brick runs after Blossom.

Me: THAT could have been a nice scene in the story, don't you think?

It wasn't bad, I won't lie. I read it all the way through with only minor cringing.

The biggest problem was the use of present-tense. It's alright...and I use to write in it, but it's just painful to read in anything but first person, in my humble opinion.

Other than that the premise was original, but it just left a really sour taste in my mouth.

I just feel Brick had it too easy. He just started reading and one day became smarter than Blossom. And the ending implies that had he not skipped that test, he would have been valedictorian.

I'm going to preface this by saying I'm a rabid Blossom fanboy, but I'm also going to try to approach this with a shred of logic.

I just can't imagine how Brick could "read" himself smarter than Blossom. I get it, he studied in general, but it still doesn't make sense. Blossom is canonically viewed as a child genius. Not only that but she loves studying. Theoretically speaking, the gap between them in the beginning was so immense that I just don't see Brick ever closing it, let alone creating a gap in the opposite direction.

It would make sense if Blossom's entire premise was being naturally brilliant (which she is), but she also thirsts for even more knowledge. I just can't accept it, it's too fantastic even for the sake of fiction.

It would be like Dee-Dee one day deciding to read herself smarter than Dexter. He's always studying, researching, learning, that technically speaking she just can't catch up. Never mind the age gap between them, which certainly IS present here. Blossom is at least a year older than Brick by canon logic.

That gripe aside, it was well written. It's the first fic I've read in ages that didn't end with me backing out in disgust, so you get credit for that.

I just feel that the premise is too fantastic to suspend my fanatical analysis of the show, let alone my disbelief.
