Lady Azar de Tameran 11/17/10 . chapter 1*Whistles*
I read Fracture first, but I do believe that I prefer this version. It leaves so much to the imagination, but at the same time, it doesn't. The degeneration of Light's mental status is subtle but so painfully clear as the story progresses. He's in a high stress situation with little to no sleep, probably some food deprivation as well (since most people can't live on cake), being constantly watched and accused (verbally harassed), and so on. It's understandable that he finally reached his limit.
If L was half as clever as he believe himself to be, he would've not only anticipated this but headed it off. But this highlights his lack of general empathy and understanding of other people.
Is he a great detective? Yes. Is he selfish and annoying? Yes. Could he drive someone mad with his behavior? Quite easily I should think. I've long thought that canon!Light has the patience of a saint. Ironically enough.
The truly sad thing in my opinion is that Light's father did nothing to prevent it. I think that he had to know that something like this would happen. Unless of course, they were waiting for Light to finally attack L. Only L probably thought it would be in a more Kira-esque manner. |
aiushtha 11/23/09 . chapter 1 I actually prefer this version to "Fracture". The usage of the numbers complemented Light's breakdown, and it feels eerie just imagining him counting and counting mentally until he snapped. I also really like the characterization of L as a big, antisocial jerk. That's what he really is after all, not the melancholic loner often seen in other fics. |
shy7cat 11/23/09 . chapter 1I appreciate the simplicity of this piece. It's more disturbing for it, I think, because Light seems much more unhinged. But it has less of an emotional impact than Fracture. I got shivers reading L and Light's interactions in that, so reading this one second was a bit...underwhelming? I think this story did a much better job of portraying Light's mental state. I feel like the stories would be more effective if combined in some way, but that's just me.
Thanks very much for all your fabulous writing. I feel less guilty for procrastinating when what I'm reading is actually good ) |
Amorpheous 10/19/09 . chapter 1I'm back to reviewing again. And I'm back to reading your fics [and back in the fandom].
I read Fracture first, so it was really interesting to fit everything together in my head as I read this.
I don't know if I would have gone insane before or after Light since I have a high tolerance for some things and a really short fuse with others. Delightfully dark and horrific without going into gory detail.
I understand how hard it is to write short fics. I'm still struggling to complete a second set of those 50 sentence prompt-things.
The numbers and the lack of chronological order in the story has given it this dizzying effect that I liken to Light's uncontrollable, twisted, giddy laughter in Fracture. The short little snippets give it this feeling of flickering claustrophobia, not quite oppressive all the time, but never open space.
Guh. I love it. Now to head over to Fracture because the feelings it invoked were the same, but flipped inside out. |
DreyaCira 9/28/09 . chapter 1That's an awesome story, if it can be called that! I smiled a lot, especially at the shins finding couches in the dark. That always happens to me, except it's my toes. Ouch! M, violence! Must go read other fic! |
recipe for insanity 9/27/09 . chapter 1Holy Moly! The story has landed... or at least this one... and it's phenomenally sensational and won over at LJ... because it's that brilliant and catchy all in one.
The digression of Light's mind makes perfect sense under this scrutiny. These numbers would drive me mad too. L should have seen it coming, but then again, as you mention, the man isn't swathe in empathy. He's more akin to criminal minds. So this innocent-thought-provoking charge of his would certainly be scrutinized and no doubt be hated since he plays so nice. XD
Delightfully horrofic. I enjoyed every bit of it! Thanks for letting me read it. |
 phollie 9/27/09 . chapter 1Holy...
I was NOT expecting that, man. Although "9" was awesome foreshadowing. I could really feel the mounting irritation in Light as the fic went on, and the climax was wonderful. I loved this. ::applaudes:: |
mikidagreat 9/26/09 . chapter 1Wow. This is one story of yours that I really liked. I like your other works a lot, and it was nice to see your style of writing in a story not as long as the others. :)
In short, this was really enjoyable to read. I can't wait for Fracture! |
