Well, I have a hard time believing this chapter was 2.5 years after the first because it's that seamless. The imagery, characterization, etc is just as smooth as the previous chapter, which shows awesome writing skills!
Really? You struggle with openings? I mean, it might be that I'm a Link fan, or it could be that the war vs peace struggle of a warrior has always intrigued me, but either way I'm completely hooked.
The first person perspective really works for you. The tense is strange; but only because I'm not used to reading anything that uses present tense. It's definitely heightening that sensation of just being dragged along into the confusion along with Link.
Also Fox as an abrasive chatterbox is just perfect. I don't know if he actually behaves that way in canon, but it's hilarious.
Some much needed Samus and Link interaction. Pulled off very well and your comparisons between Hyrule and the world of SSB is effective. I'm still at a loss for what role Marth plays in this, and will just echo a previous reviewer and say please don't handwave him back to life. I know you won't though as I appreciate this fic has so many levels of plot development I just have to wait and see what you have in store. Good stuff.
Yay, Princess Peach and my main man Link! Boy, nostalgia is kicking in big-time, but I'm most certainly digressing from my review in this regard!
Okay, so another good chapter with good character development and imagery that makes me feel like I'm really part of the story; instead of just telling me you're showing me all the stuff that is going on, so huge kudos to you for that.
I too like the black and white take you did on Link. That's always been a personal interpretation of mine as well and I'm glad to see I'm not the only one who sees that :)
Two and a half years? And you still went back and updated it? Can I say that I'm impressed? I would have dropped a project or deleted it from the site if I'd taken that long between updates. Congratulations!
Anyway. On to the story!
I simply love all of your imagery in this story. It's just fabulous and transports me right into your setting. "from depthless, stomach-churning pools to blistering, disorienting caverns; from beasts sensed before they are seen, to monsters that even in plain view, are too impossible to comprehend." Lovely and full of excellent details!
Still excellent; this chapter in particular really showed the growth between Samus and Link, which I really appreciated because I couldn't get that much from them. (Not to mention, let's just say that Samus would have probably dropped me thirty thousand feet from the sky as well...)
I just can't be stuffed saying too much in this review. Too lazy. D: Just that the plotline's developing nicely, even though the 'plot' hasn't started yet. Character development's great. Wait- Marth may still be alive? I think you know the ropes, but PLEASE don't include a magical item that revives him. That would be to cliche and dumb and overused. I don't think you'd really do that though. Only really, really experienced (but extremely risk-taking and bold) or really inexperienced authors would do that.
Okay, I'll just sum up this review with my overall impression of the chapter: absolutely brilliant. Enough said.
Its nice to see Link in a place where hes comfortable. It was also neat to see Samus find value in a place like Hyrule. It was interesting to she how she thought of herself too. Sorry if this posted twice, the phone is being stupid.
Ah! Hyrule, lovely place, really. I believe you've done it well, with a happy reminisce to boot. So with the slight history reveal on Marth, it would bring a little light to the actual inner plot so say. Mewtwo can be absolutely adored here (even with that brief moment for this chapter), which is not a characterization given to him often. Great work, and can't wait until the next one.
This is so good! All of the characters seem to have their own self, and do things that they would do. None of it feels forced, and not everyone can accomplish that in fanfiction. I hope we get to see or hear more about Marth too. Most of the time I hate how people write his character because it's not how I picture him to act, but you've got him pegged. Can't wait to read the next chapter, it's all one big mystery that I want to know the details about. :)
Le gasp! You went two and a half years before you updated? Well, I commend you for picking this up and trying to stick with it to the end. That's awesome! With that said, I think the thing I liked most about this chapter was the inclusion of all the characters I seemed to recognize. I recognized Peach and Bowswer from Mario, Zelda from Zelda of course. And, although I know very little about it, isn't Mewtwo from Pokemon? Or am I mistaken? Anyway though, I am still enjoying all their unique personalities. I can't say much as far as characterization because I don't know what's accepted as canon, but I'm going to assume they're spot-on. Really, I would think canon would have to be more lenient in this respect, but I am enjoying Falcon and Samus, even though I'd never heard of them before this. I would be interested to read more. Well done. :)
Ah, the morning rush. If it's common, it would put the team at that much more risk, right? A crumbling building, so we don't get to see what the news says after. Aww. :P I can actually imagine that song being changed into one with a little more fanfare. You know, the "fancies" line reminded me of something: where's Mario? She gotta fancy that, hm? It's always hard leaving someone special behind. So he finally asks; was pretty much wondering when he would! And he gets punished for it, awww! X3 Link's view on something he's so used to is slightly pessimistic, which is how others react to their own used-tos. And then there's that moment when you realize Samus is taller than Link. Link's opinions balance out with Samus'. So she seeing as how she was trained in the robotic composure, it's refreshing to see something change about her. Guess eventually, all will be revealed about the friend he never met. :D
I'd say this wair first chapter. As I am unfamiliar with the fandom, I cannot attest to whether or not it's hooking, however I did find it interesting to read.
I recognized some of the names (Samus, Pikachu) and already, a picture of the story is developping. I would have liked to see more backstory with more clarity on the first character, but otherwise, nicely done.
Just one thing. Towards the beginning/middle, the way Link seemed to think almost alternated between naive to intelligent. It was as if you didn't really know what you were going to do with him.
A very well written fic, one that I would look forward to reading more of.
