Ok, This is how it should end based on MY OPINION, (I want to make it clear that I'm not demanding anything, but if it goes otherwise it would feel too wrong)

First off, it's inevitable that What's-his-face abusive husband is coming after them. SO, Let's kill two birds with one stone (no pun intended. Seriously) and go with abusive-husband tries to kill Arnold, Helga being so devoted to him, put herself in harms way to protect him, and the bullet hits her pregnant stomach. NOW, the child is gone, and Helga can still potentially live, it wouldn't be a life threatening wound.

For those of you who read this, and are against abortions/death of unborn children. I don't give two craps about your opinion, your entitled to yours just as I'm entitled to mine.

That child should NOT continue existing. Even If Helga ends up with Arnold, they should not be forced (well, force is a strong word) to raise a child who shares blood with a man like abusive-husband guy (is his name jacob? I don't remember).

this sounds wrong, but KILL THE CHILD- metaphorically.

(I apologize for this taking so long, but life has been crazy for me for the past year. I've also suffered from severe bouts of depression which kept me from publishing this. Yes, I've held onto it for a year; there's no excuse other than I really thought it sucks. In any case, thanks to a new goal-setting program, I have to write something every day, and it's being followed, so you'll see more from me in the future, even if it's just short stories. However, I'm still devoted to finishing this.)
