Nice exploration of something that was a bit glossed over on the show. Well done!

This was sweet. It caught so well what I love about Uther, and I like to think of he and Gaius charging into battle as Merlin and Arthur do. I love it. Favorite line: Uther cannot find his voice; not even to explain why he is not his son. I think a lot of the watchers hate him for not being like Arthur. I love him for it.

Your story made me well up; I can really see this playing out in the episode (and sorely wish I had). It was such a dark installment, The Witchfinder. I was astonished that Uther could do that to Gaius. Gaius, who always stood beside him (even when he was being ridiculously pig-headed) and always acted in his king's best interests. It just made me sad. I love how your fic explored the Uther and Gaius relationship further in regard to Uther's actions; and with such beautiful detail and flow, too.

I read a crackfic with this situation, and it gave Uther an Epic Fail. This is a nice dramatic, solemn counterpoint to that. Keep writing!
