I love the feeling of Claire's loneliness. Sometimes even the strongest person needs a rest now and then, and let someone else protect them. Wonderful!

Well done - good introspection and tight pacing. The only thing is that I noticed the "just in case" thing showed up in another story ("Pink"). It's a good idea (never knowing what "just in case" means, that is), but be careful not to overuse it. Just because you've used it twice doesn't mean you've overused it - it's just that I happened to read two of your stories with the same piece back-to-back. I still thoroughly enjoyed it, though.
