R Amythest 12/8/10 . chapter 1This fic manages to do a rare thing: it straddles the line of ... all right, I can't think of a better word than "hot". It straddles the line of downright hot description while neither shying away from it, nor toppling over into erotica. It gets away with being appropriately labeled T - tasteful, but leaving us with a strong impression of Pent's desire. Impressive.
At once, we get a strong sense of its Victorian-esque setting, from details like Louise's obliging submission, to Pent's possessiveness (wonderful personification with the quilt), to Louise's role as head matron; and at once, underneath, we feel their nature untouched by custom: Louise's implied dominance (and Pent's awareness of this!), that Pent is "glad she hesitated", Pent's approval of her archery garb. Their love is so complete.
Again you round out the world in a lot of details that make me smile, for example, the playfully familiar comment that Pent's sister made on his prospective marriage, and the thousand ways that Pent's behavior mirrors Erk's. It's no wonder that Pent picks out a child that must also be placed on a windowsill to sun and watered once a day.
And of course, where would we be if we didn't praise imagery written as well as it is here? Without burdening us with unnecessary Dickens-esque passages about the way a chair glints in ultraviolet light because it was worth two hundred quid a century ago, it's easily to visualize the curve of Louise's hip, the sand attacking a pair of lonely travelers in the Nabata, the image of Pent concentrating while bent in a strange angle near sundown as the light fades and he hardly notices.
Finally, I commend the way that this fic manages to expose so many nuances of Pent's relationship with Louise while working within an overarching framework, wistful yet present, of the wonders of Arcadia. |
quintilis 8/21/10 . chapter 1Wonderful. I don't know why this story doesn't have more recognition - your prose is breathtaking. Job well done! |
 Silvara 12/10/09 . chapter 1Wow.
Okay, mh... what can I say just to poke at your patience?
...Aha! Yes ; if it was possible without hurting the intimate effect of the last line, I wouldn't have minded a few more line after the ending sentence. As I know you're a master of descriptions, to see more of the doors of Arcadia would have been wonderful.
All reserve, blush and stuff let alone, I have to say I sorta have hoped the ph of the story wouldn't be so neutral if you get what I mean (coz I'm such a prude, you may say). While I'm usually better off with a dose of ambiguity that only give the outlines and leave the details to the imagination for these matters (ex: Tellius, Inuyasha), for pairing as Pent Louise, (or Seth Erika, btw) it's not the case, and I wouldn't have minded atidbid more citrus. Go wonder. – Ok, I won’t bother you more than that with my life.
This performance is enchanting, grandiose for me. The details, the characters, the magnificent ending! Thank for portraying one of my favorite FE items (after marriage - and that is a feat in itself!) This fic is among those that justify and definite my personal liking to your skills. hehe If I could persuade you to write more of these I would die happily. |
Silvara publicbdslive.fr 12/6/09 . chapter 1 That was so sweet! I haven’t even read it yet, but I'm in love...oh, my, this is so cute and perfect and 3 My brain went in vacation. And, you put me back to ultra fangirlie mode. I'll wait to read it seriously to give a proper signed review. (ah! :D btw I'm still a nafiel or whatever fan, huh, so (hehe) I'm still watching you page) But, oww, I love you for that one! It fits them so nicely. In an idealistic sort of epic way. (don't mind that sentence, I myself have difficulties understanding it xD) |
