Personally, I thought this was brilliant. I didn't find it hard to read at all, it flowed very well and I liked the slightly unusual style. I thought it was a very insightful look into Roy's mind and the emotions he must have felt before that time.

I don't really have a problem with run-on sentences, but the ones near the beginning were a bit too much. I had to re-read a sentence (the one with another sentence in parenthesis) in order to remember what was said at the beginning of it. It flowed much better towards the end. Good, quick read, though.
