Haha, if I was the female gladiator I would've kept fighting. Sure, it would be embarrassing for the crowd to see my breasts but I'd rather go down fighting. Still, a clever stradegy by Myth.
I loved the fight scenes in this chapter. It gave us all a taste of what Myth's training had taught him. My favorite battle was definitely the one with Rock.
You had the perfect cliffie at the end of this chapter with Li Long's surrender. It really made me want to read the next chapter to see why he did that.
Looks like we're a few chapters away from our first collabo if I'm not mistaken. I can't wait to for Myth to meet you know who... :)
So the truth of The Chivalrous Pirate begins to reveal itself... A tale of regret that Myth has yet to discover...
I remember how this chapter hooked me on both the story of Myth and the history of his father. I'm still an addict and can't wait to see how everything plays out.
"I said 'You pass'. True I told you to defeat me. The real test was your wisdom. In battle you have to use both mind and body. I knew you couldn't beat me. But I had to see if you were wise enough to realize that. Since you realized that, you passed."
Olcandan is a wise master and this was the perfect test for his pupil. I'm proud of Myth for being wise enough that he passed the true test. A true warrior should know to admit to himself when he's met his better.
Now that Myth has completed Olcadan's training it's time to see him put it into practice and learn from the many opponents he will face in his adventures...
It is so nice to read this once again. Again I am so glad you brought PotM back :)
...and of course I'm fashionably late to the party as usual...
I remember thinking this story was gonna be MythCassandra when I first read this chaper. I loved the interaction between the two of them. I also love the intrigue you'd created by Myth's reaction to the fragment of Soul Edge.
eagersoul173 1/17/11 . chapter 1
You're never going to update your stories is that right?
Sorry for the long wait of reviewing, Nick. I don't have any excuses - just that I've honestly forgotten. Hope you can forgive me on this one.
Anyway it was an awesome chapter however there were some errors that I have noticed - minor ones of course, nothing major. Johan makes such an incredible announcer. It's a shame that he was "evil" in SC4 though. Ha, I have no idea why but some of the things he said in this chapter made me laugh, especially when after Myth defeated the female warrior. Speaking of which, it was a good tactic Myth done in making her surrender but I do feel kinda sorry for her. After all, she was left exposed to everyone's eyes...
I liked the battle with the one with the sword and shield although it does make me wonder why he resorted to kicking Myth down there - lol, I thought only females do that! And Myth recovers well after that move :P "Never do that to a pirate, ya mother fucker!" - Go Myth, taunt the bastard furthermore! Yeah, Myth is bound to feel guilty for killing his opponent - it's the first time for him ever and he doesn't know what to do I suppose. Then again it was the warrior's fault for getting himself impaled and not focusing though.
Dragon - Oh God,I remember him! He's a right sneaky thing he is...You can tell I don't really like him as I think he is way too cocky and this is shown through his reaction to Myth. 'I realized that he used the notches in his blade to catch his opponent's weapon. Dragon had a good defense, which he used for his offence.' - Brilliant tactic there. The unsheathing attack Myth done was very well excuted as it can take the opponent by surprise - Mitusurgi uses this as well. Oh well, Dragon has been beaten *kicks him when he's down* XDDDDDD
Well, Rock is very strong so he's bound to weild that mace without any effort and I felt sorry for Myth when he got injured - ouch, that has to hurt! Still I can imagine Rock grinning before he attacks Myth - it's kinda like saying "Is that it?" I actually laughed when he stomped on Rock's foot to disarm him :D What's even more funny is that I pictured Rock clutching his injured foot, lol! A running headbutt? Man, if that connected then it would do some damage for both men...Glad Rock passed out though before anything did happen.
It's good to see that even though Myth isn't an experienced warrior yet but his training is put to good use - he can hold his ground for some time and I admire that about him. Li Long making that decision not to fight him makes him honourable in my eyes and I think that was a good gesture of friendship.
Good update, Nick :) I'll also be looking forward to your next updates for Lost Highway and Pirate's Creed hopefully soon.
The Lakeside Coliseum isn't a bad arena as such - I remember fighting on that stage both in SC2 and 3. I think one had a cage/steel bars going around the arena while other times it was out in the open as in you can knock your opponent out of the ring. If I were Myth I would be awe-struck too when I first entered the coliseum and seen how huge it was, especially if you have fight in front of a packed audience who are taking bets I guess...The rules and how the coliseum is run in regards to the fighting aspect sounded quite interesting. And true, they do frown upon using all sorts of trickery when it comes to a duel as it proves they are the lesser person. Speaking of which, I don't think Dampierre would go down that well if he were one of the contestants, lol! Uh, I think you have made a slight error...His name isn't Long Li; it's Li Long. Besides Long Li sounds kinda strange if you ask me. I know that Long is his first name and all as Chie calls him that in Soul Blade, but he is tend to be known as Li Long.
I'm glad that you included Rock in this too - it's about time he should make an appearance. Let's bring back the long forgotten fighters as they are so damn classic! Hmm, you know that man who pulled Myth to one side to have a talk with him, isn't it Durer (however you spell his name)? The exchange between Myth and the man was wonderfully written. I do kinda agree with the man when it comes to his warnings about Cervantes and that Myth shouldn't be seeking to get him back for the things he done. I mean, Myth doesn't know what he is getting into if he faces Cervantes - he could easily get killed within a few minutes...Hehe, I can imagine Myth being a captain of his own crew one of these days and following in his father's footsteps :P "I'm telling you this here and now, your father wasn't always known as the chivalrous pirate. He was known as one after he started to atone for his actions." - Oh dear, now that sounds a bit sinister.
And I have faith when it comes to Myth in his upcoming battles! :3
I see you managed to finally update this - yay! Have to agree with you on the whole Li Long thing. He was a character I enjoyed playing as in Soul Blade as he was the first ever nunchuka wielder of the series. Haha, everyone thought he had died (even I did) when he didn't appear in the rest of the games while Maxi filled his position as it seemed. Still I was surprised when he was made a bonus character in SC3...shame he didn't appear in SC4 *sighs* By the way, the Green Lantern and the DC comics? They're something I haven't been interested in really so I can't say much to them...
Anyway it's a great chapter - I really liked it. Well, it looks like Myth is a journey to seek Soul Edge to claim vengeance on his father and crew. Little does he know that Cervantes has one half of the sword, which is the female version. I love the meeting between Myth and Li Long - they're such an awesome team! It's good that you have included his background story. Come to think about it and in no way do I intend to be disrespectful here as I do admire Li Long, but it would seem that he makes such a shitty assassin if he failed to kill his first ever war lord, lol. But if that didn't happen then I don't think he would have met Chie - damn, he sure did love her quite a lot...'Before he fainted, he saw a pillar of white light on the Spanish horizon.' - otherwise known as the Evil Seed which caused a hell of a lot of problems for some of the characters. Yep, looks like Myth and Li Long have a lot of things in common with eachother, which makes them good travelling companions and also good friends.
"If you do find him, defeat him for the both of us. I would hunt him down, but I gave up swordsman hunting a long time ago. I'm not even sure if I'd kill Mitsurugi if I ever saw him anymore. Please, for all of his victims, you must defeat Cervantes." - What a man of honour :)Still Myth has a long way to go during his path of vengeance so that he can finally take down Cervantes. I think they're being watched by either Zasalamel or Taki...That's all I can say XD.
You know, Nick, you never fail to impress me with this story. I know I've read it before and all, but this still has to be one of my fav stories when I was new to the site :)
Loved the description of Olcadan when Myth first encountered him - such a shame he didn't make an appearance in SC4 though...Granted, he is a bit of a strange fighter but there's something about him that I like. I have managed to encounter him with a few characters in their story modes in SC3 which lead me to battle against Night Terror. Maybe Myth should have discarded the dagger if it's useless to him...I wasn't surprised when Olcadan was in a state of shock when Myth revealed he's not skilled in the art of swordfighting.
I thought about it. I said, "Before you found me, my father and the rest of his pirate crew were slaughtered by a mad man. That bastard didn't even see me as a challenge and decided not to put me out of my misery. I felt so weak that night. I stand here now making an oath that I'll avenge them and never be that weak again. Please take me as your pupil." - Man, what a speech. At least that was good enough for Olcadan's approval of becoming his teacher.
I laughed at the thought of Olcadan throwing Myth into the water - very amusing XD Sounds like he's in for gruelling training then, I'm kinda surprised that he doesn't sometimes complain about it...I know I would. Walking on hands for an hour - that does make sense as it increase upperbody strength. After all the training Olcadan is bound to be better than Myth during the final test due to having more experience in battles and all that. A good thing though it does help Myth for the future.
"I said 'You pass'. True I told you to defeat me. The real test was your wisdom. In battle you have to use both mind and body. I knew you couldn't beat me. But I had to see if you were wise enough to realize that. Since you realized that, you passed." - Fighting isn't about proving how strong you are physically cos depending on brute strength doesn't always work. Fighting is about being aware of your opponent's every move and trying to think of methods to make them surrunder. Basically it's outsmarting someone and being two steps in front of them, lol!
Well at least Myth has learnt many things therefore he has gained experienced. I hope Myth can give him a rematch at the end of his quest. It would be brilliant to see the student finally defeating the master.
Ah, the Immortal Pirate - that's my favourite nickname of Cervantes...Actually some of his theme songs are pretty epic in their own way. Right now I'm listening to Leaving The World Behind (his SC theme music) so it really does make this chapter really special to read.
Brill chapter as always :) I like the way that Giovanni is chilivarious unlike the rest of his crew as it shows that he does have a heart. Heh, not all pirates have a bad name - some of them try to be good in their own way I suppose. At least Myth got a belt for his sword then, that's the main thing. I'm telling you, if I were a member of the crew on that ship and if I seen a graveyard of ships amongst a terrible storm, I would be begging the captain to rethink his decision and turn back. Then again I think my request would be ignored, lol.
Well, Cervantes is not an ordinary man - he is superhuman so of course many people are going to be dead once he targets them as their prey. Still I liked him back in Soul Blade when he proved to be a challenge to defeat...Oh, the last stage of his Weapon Master mode in that game was where you as Cervantes have to face off all the fighters one after the after - very awesome if you ask me! “If he wants to kill us, he has to catch us first.” - I think he has underestimated Cervantes as no man could ever escape him. Come to think of it, I wonder who is steering the Adrian...*shrugs*
To be honest I really can't blame the cowards in trying to escape but having said that, they kinda more or less deserved it. 'He moved like a hawk swooping down at its prey.' - Lovely imagery there :) And when Cervantes mentioned the Immortal Pirate bit, it made me laugh a bit as it's true in what he's saying - you can't kill anything or anyone which is already dead or immortal! I always feel kinda sorry for when Myth witnessing his father getting killed in a gruesome way by Cervantes :( A young man such as himself should not have that terrible burdan placed upon him...Poor Myth.
