Good story. Enough history to sound officially Ducky and an ending that could only have come from the mind of Gibbs. And Abby's line was very Abby as well. Enjoyed!

Such a good well thought out story with some real heart. Great chaacterisations. McGee would find this 'cold' kill so difficult to deal with. Brava Oz!

Beside him, his faithful McMutt stared balefully as if to say ‘you woke me again’ and went off to sleep on the floor next to the computer. “That’s what it would be like if you were sharing a bed with that ghost whisperer woman,” McGee called after him." - AW, doggy-Jethro, don't be cross at your human! He has IMO done SUCH a totally good and scary thing today that he needs everybody to cut him some slack, including himself, and you are making that even harder for him now.

"Gibbs led McGee in to the bedroom and indicated he should sit on the edge of the bed. McMutt eyed proceedings wearily and shifted a little to make room." - Hehehe at McMutt obeying his human's boss like that. Do you think he knows his namesake is a Marine too, like himself?

"When he reached for McGee's discarded covers, however, he found they were underneath McGee’s faithful companion. “Hey: Junior,” Gibbs rasped, the tilt of his head suggesting the hound should shift further. McMutt heaved a resigned, stuttering sigh and moved further across the bed allowing Gibbs to grasp the abandoned quilt and cover McGee." - Hehehe at that totally cute human-Jethro/doggy-Jethro interaction.

“You did good out there, today Tim,” Gibbs said quietly as he tucked the top edge under McGee's chin. “I’m proud of you.” - AW!

Great last chapter. I just loved their conversation, Gibbs knows so very well what Tim is going through.

“I don’t think I’m cut out to be a sniper, Boss.”

Gibbs almost smiled at the familiar catch phrase. “That’s exactly why you are, McGee.”

“I keep seeing his face.”

“You always will.”

“How can that make me a good sniper?”

“A good sniper understands what it is to take a life. Once you start enjoying it, it’s time to go.”

I'm just reading a book about soldiers coming back from war who did not have anyone to have that kind of talk with and never come to grips with it ...

Wow, that was showtime. 's rambling on strange birds and then Gibbs on the table. Would give anybody the creeps. Loved Abby's last line, perfect to ease the tension.

I liked this one it was obviously thought out ahead of time, making it almost read like an episode of the series. Good job.
