Sam did redeem himself in the end.

This just gets to me, Sam's desolution and what's so sad is that he's right. His choices never seem to make a difference for him. You got right to the heart of the matter beautifully with this.

Awe! Sam! It's such a sad fate that his life just won't come together. This really hits the proverbial nail on the head. Loved the near-death scene. Sometimes I wonder how things might have turned out had Sam agreed to aid Lilith.

Oh, thank you so much for this. I literally had no love left for Sam or the show. None. At all. And that hurt more than I can say. And then I read this, and I...felt for Sam again. It's a rare occurance, these days. In any case, I really love this. "Damned if he does, damned if he doesn't: Sam wonders if free will is only for those who aren't already forsaken." Awesome. I thought that it was interesting that Michael didn't even consider leaving Sam dead, but I didn't really think about the fact that Sam might have wanted to stay dead. The mantra comes back again, huh? :)

Another one of those stories that make me think. You are dangerous, that you always do that, because one day my head might explode. I can see Sam being willing to sacrifice himself. It does mean redemption to him. After just meeting his mother for the first time,he is overwhelmed by her beauty and by who she is. Meeting his dad before hunting, being able to see who the real John was and also finally being able to tell him how he feels, something that has been on his mind for a long time, has to give him closure. The rift between him and Dean must seem like a blessing during the split second, when he makes the decision to step in front of his mom. Finally something worth while, something that he can choose and that's the right thing to do. How awesome is that. And yet his choice, his sacrifice is destroyed again. No free will for Sammy. But I have to disagree there. It was his choice, his free will. Lucifer didn't bring him back, I don't think he could have, even if he would have been able to otherwise. Lucifer couldn't go back to 1978, because he was not free in that year. It was Michael and only because Dean begged him. I don't belief Michael's or Lucifer's line any more. I think they are both lying just to intimidate the boys and get them to say yes, because they think they can't do anything else. I also don't think Lucifer can bring Sam back when he dies, I think it's another line to keep Sam from doing something stupid. Anyway, now that I rambled on and on and probably annoyed you to no end, I'll quit. Great little story. Hugs, Vonnie
