After the war with the Haydonites was won, the Awareness defeated, and the Haydonites freed, the people of Earth were tired of the Robotech wars so they banished the REF forces from Earth and erased all references of them from history and records. The REF returned to the other side of the galaxy with the Sentinal races and set up the Robotech Federation with the REF as their Military Arm and continue to advance their technology including new forms of Protoculture power such as Protoculture Crystals (This will become the Paeksis Pragma to others), Shield Technology, New Weapons, Many of the Ships and Veritechs are the same just upgrded and advanced, but also new Ship classes and advancements in Shadow Technology, and the humans change, they become like the Human Invid since they are continuously exposed to the Flower of Life and Protoculture and crossobreeding with Human Invid that join them. One of the first Protoculture Crystals is lost by the Robotech Federation and it appears at Earth, this is 100 years after the Robotech Forces are Banished, and they use it to begin the Colonization Era. 100 years later the Vandread series starts, but this time the Harvester Forces were created because of the discovery of a Derelict Haydonite ship with a partial copy of the Awareness and it uses the Harvester Humans as a means to create a army to continue it's goals of galactic conquest. So the REF gets involved and reveal themselves to the rest of Humanity once again, and the Nirvana continuously runs into them on their journey home, and you can create pairings for Meia, Jura, Barnette, and Misty from Robotech Federation OC characters.
