Reviews for La Résistance

*sputters* I cannot BELIEVE that I didn't get the email alert for this! I just happened to go and check, and I found it! What an excellent way to end this story! I love how you gave a glimpse of what's in store for them, but kept it in the moment. A solitary moment of peace where two lovers can finally declare themselves and relish in it. Alone. Fantastic!

Wow - amazing chapter! The fear and anxiety of the unknown: who will be in power after the Germany leave, whether or not Carlisle is still alive. I’m glad Esme’s deeds were made known so publicly … that was a great scene. And her emotions upon learning that her sacrifice led to tangible and important outcomes were both heartbreaking and heartwarming.

Really wonderful story – your writing brought history to life … and beyond adding so much depth to E&Cs in GwtRU, I really loved reading their story.

Blame your LJ for this late rev – I started watching the vid, and then decided to see if I could find it in English. I didn’t, but I did come across a really interesting History Channel program on youtube which included interviews.

Watching the vid did help reinforce exactly how dangerous it was for Esme to go out into the streets. I loved her bravery for putting up the banner and understood her need to show her patriotism after having to hide it so long – even as it made me fearful of Dekker’s reaction.

Great tense scene between Esme and Dekker – his shock and anger are so well done. I have to say that his not following orders would have led to his death … but that he shows no remorse at all for all the men, women and children who died so horribly just shows his monstrosity - ugh. And loved the irony that the gun he gave her was used against him. Great chapter!

This was heart-pounding! I loved the vision of Esme opening her home to the wounded soldiers, and at first I was sure that Carlisle would be one of the wounded. But you're such an incredible story teller, you made their reunion much more interesting. From the irony of the impact of the Resistance soldiers blowing up the rail lines to Esme's braveness in front of the dangerous crowd, you made us feel the uncertainty and fear in the tenuous victory for France.

And Gerard! Great use of that revolting character! But the best was the close of this chapter, with Carlisle and Esme finally together. Wonderfully done.

Actually it's not Nuremburg but Nuremberg I should know I studied it last year. World War Two is an important part of French history

So, maybe you could, I don't know, make a sequel with all that you mentionned (" Injured men at home in need of Carlisle's medical care, Paris needing to be repaired and rebuilt, Esme's reputation to be re-established, and in the far-off future a year down the road, a trip to Nuremburg to testify against Hans Dekker for crimes against humanity.") plus them building their relationship ? Could you do that ? Because if you could it would be great. Carlisle/Esme forever !

Love. Wow. I was so excited to see that you'd updated but now I'm sad that it's over! This has been so wonderfully written, thank you so much for sharing. Any chance that we'll get to see an epilogue as they start life together? Even if you don't, at least I have Girl With a Red Umbrella to fill in gaps. You're amazing!

*sigh*

I can go to sleep peacefully now,

Thank you for this wonderful story. Besides Edward, Esme is my favorite character. This is such a great companion piece to "Red Umbrella," and adds so much background to that story.

You're awesome, Spangle!

This is just the best, sweetest story ever! They just held each other..it is so perfect. *sniffs**

They were perfect for such a tale, and you told it brilliantly. Thanks for this.

What a beautiful ending to a beautiful story. It's so bittersweet. Exciting to see them (FINALLY!) together but sad because it's the end... I've really enjoyed this story. Thanks for writing it. I've loved this Esme since I started reading GWaRU when you & justaskalice started it. She's so different from the typical Esme. As is this Carlisle.

This made my day. What an intriguing, entrancing story overall. Your story was definitely breathtaking; I'm so glad I could be apart of the ride! :)

I hope you continue writing!

QueenOfHalf-BakedIdeas 3/30/10 . chapter 8
LOVED this story :) If Esme and Carlisle seem a little flat in Red Umbrella, they certainly are the opposite here.
