I'm sorry, but you lost me with chapter two. In chapter one we see two very young hobbits up to misschief (and since Bilbo is still around it means that Pippin can't be more than eleven!) and in chapter two both young miscreants get out for... a pint of beer?

But luckily chapter three has gotten us on the right track again. I like chapter three. I like the 'parental' side of Gandalf and I'm glad that Pippin isn't afraid of the powerful wizard, but instead feels safe with him (so I'm a big mushbal, so sue me :-)
