Reviews for This Woman's Work
Red Bess Rackham 6/10/11 . chapter 1
Weird - cute, but Zoe and Jayne is so strange to me. I'll defs have to read more of the fics for them you have on here, as I'm not so convinced of them as a proper ship yet. That being said, this was sweet and I could hear Jayne's voice real well. Nice writing!

So interesting to read stories told from Jayne's perspective where he's a basically decent guy under all the gruffness and violence and menace. It's hard to buy that Zoe would go from Wash to Jayne, but maybe she wanted something completely different, someone that would in no way remind her of her late (first) husband? You could actually expand this by a bit, maybe explain a little more fully not just that Zoe genuinely fell in love with Jayne, but why or how.

My favorite descriptive line:

"No one but the hospital's single nurse; a tiny, mumbley woman who moved slowly between each patient room, fluffing pillows and breathing something in an old language about: the doctor coming to see them all soon."

And I really liked the line from the poem, "Now starts the craft of the father."

Very well writeen and presented, laid out well and with a perfect ending with the baby born. Your writing is effective and your turns of phrase are well done, you write from Jayne's angle well. This is a realistic portrayal of life after Wash, I'm surprised that more people don't take this road. Its the type of thing that I imagine might start out as convenience and then turn into real love. Good job having the crew, and Jayne himself, wonder why. Its cute how they each think they are going to have something different, Zoe a son and Jayne a daughter, so sure about it.

Very nice story!

Zoe and Jayne together seems weird but when I think to come of it better, it is not anymore.

Love how you described them and then when he suddenly realises why Zoe had chosen him

What a wonderful story! Sweet and tender, in-character. I like how you show perplexed at why Zoe is with him, his girl, having his baby... and his prayer at the ending... and his realization that she loves him... Beautiful picture here. Adding this to my favorites, and thanks for a great read!

Wow! Wow! Wow!

I've NEVER been a fan of Jayne and Zoe ships. But...

I love this! You're a great writer and you just made me rethink my whole stance on Zoe/Jayne ships! Just...wow! Really liked it, if you couldn't tell!

And I loved the phrase the doctor tells Jayne.
