One Fine Wire 2010-01-04 . chapter 14Wow. This is quite the epic. The plot is fantastic, and I really love the title; its very captivating. I also love how detailed the chapters are and how they reveal so much. Each chapter kept me hanging and wanting more.
However, there are some spelling, grammatical, and punctuation errors; but proofreading can fix that. There is an excess of modern language, though. Try to tone down on that, as you're writing fiction set during a certain time period; the modern language becomes a bit of a distraction.
Otherwise, I love this and I hope you update soon! |
scholarwriter 2009-12-01 . chapter 14 This whole story is really intriguing, it's like falling down a historical rabbit hole and waking up and having to piece together all the madcap logic. Please continue, and add some P/JS action. This is by far the most creative take on the movie ever. |
scholarwriter 2009-11-30 . chapter 1 This is my review for the WHOLE thing:
WOW!
Please keep going with this! Add some Pocahontas/John Smith chapters! |

I love how you thread different pieces of history into the story, exploring fully a range of themes, and the characterization is also wonderful.
I really hope you finish this one day! |

UbiquitousPitt 2003-08-27 . chapter 13Prepare thyself! The movies have invaded.
Well, welcome back to the fold, Tabby! I was starting to wonder if my sudden fanship hadn't spooked you into hiding (or a restraining order). I tend to get disturbing like that. But a chapter dedication! I am TOO flattered! I should hide myself from polite society - I'm not worthy in light of such honours!
*absolutely red face to match absolutely red hair*
SO here we go - May I mention again that Chap 9 was hilarious? I still think about certain quips sometimes and laugh.
In general, the setting of this story -seems- to bring together the styles of two of my favourite movies: Elizabeth I and The Madness of King George. Which is funny, cause this story is set right between both of them in continuity - heehee
Haha! Strangely enough, I think Geoffrey Rush just slipped in as James Fuller. Though more having to do with his role in "Shakespeare In Love". Ok, that was a set of random thoughts for the day. *bows and flies off like a gnat*
What is up with this Charles Fawkes character? He must be an author creation - I find this hilarious - I'm actually a BIG FAN of a real British politician who came onto the scene a hundred years later, by the name of Charles FOX. lol Though they appear to be nothing alike.
What a strange expedition. Hm - is this an actual review? I'm everywhere this time. And I think my review is coming off pretty crap - Sorry.
"But facts were facts - the man shoveled **."
WELL PUT! lol I know how that is...
When I think of Count Wexford-Smyth, I think of Kenneth Branaugh. Told you about the movies-invading thing.
"I wouldn't even DREAM of bathing! This man is a lying monster!"
I know I've said this, but I'll say it again - I LOVE your humour!! HAHA!
I'm glad we're on the ship! It's funny, and the plot is shoving along - However, the story is becoming more and more vague... and you're use of ellipses more and more constant. It could be frustrating for a reader whom isn't equally insane (as I am) as the material and the writer ;) Is your target audience insane people only? *waggles eyebrows* Ellipses! Crazy, man...
Ugh! Poor Raleigh. How screwed up.
I loved the chapter - Looking forward to the next 'intense one'! Keep at it. Tenaciously! Or I will tenaciously keep after you - RRar! |
Psychedelic Penguin 2003-08-24 . chapter 13So I was right!! The first Fuller was an hallucination. For a while there I thought you weren't going to finish (just me panicking, is all really.) I'm also glad to see Thomas back. I figured you'd leave him in chapter 8 (?). I can't wait to see what happens with everybody once they get to Virginia!! |
UbiquitousPitt 2003-08-09 . chapter 12I find it depressing that this story does not receive more reviews. You are an excellent, thorough writer. You put thought into your story line, plot, setting, and emotional descriptions. I've never been a Ratcliffe fan - but being "the weakest of the strong", as you put it, is definitely an endearing character flaw (in fiction, atleast) that can be more readily related to. I hadn't meditated deeply on this concept for a while, until I read your chapter. I never thought I'd sit on the edge of my seat and say, "Don't kill Ratcliffe"! You're quite the writer.
This is so weird. So well-developed. My vocabulary is so monotonous. Today. But this is one of the best written fan material I've read - you've a highly professional style. Though the accuracy of your details could use work... there's no smog in London, for one ('London smog' transfers over to the traditional 'London fog'). Also, British legal systems aren't like American (and I’ll assume, Canadian..?) legal systems - an attorney would be called a 'barrister' (just a little detail) - unless I'm completely off my head - but I flicked this detail to the wayside as I know next to nothing about the pre-Commonwealth legal system in England. I hope you are not annoyed and appreciate the info from a know-it-all nose-in-the-air such as myself. So, what the hell. These details seem snippish - but your story is of such quality, that I thought I'd bother you to let you know. Maybe I should be a damn l'histoire consultant, I'm so bloody annoying!!
A nagging plot hole (this one must be haunting you - sorry): If Lon was recognizable enough for both John and Thomas to notice it was him... why can he not get hired? By people who know him by his face?
And you master of suspense, you - leaving that particular chapter on a true Ratcliffe-hanger... Evil!
Also - I thought chapter 9 was hilarious! You have a comic style that compliments your story very nicely and Count Wexford-Smyth is a trip and a half.
I haven't seen Pocahontas II, yet! I'm a loser (depending on -ahem- individual definitions). Is Wiggins in it??
Poor Wiggins - he's surrounded by absolutely nutty people. And I always thought -he- was a bit off it. |
