Your story is good. I especially think that the animal friends are a good idea. They're cute and they have a fairy tale aspect to them. The only thing I would say is that you need more punctuation. Every quote starts a new paragraph, even if its one sentence(that part always gets me). But so far its a great story, and a great idea. Love the kidnapped rulers idea.
