Abreaction 12/28/10 . chapter 1 Brevity is a delicate art, but, in my honest opinion, it is something far more commendable than bombastic vocabulary. Good writers don't use words people barely understand; they use simple words, and they use them well. |
Kitskune Miyake 11/28/10 . chapter 1While the language is kinda obscure, the message is clear as the story progresses. Though now, I think it can still apply today. We Americans worry about the economy and terrorism because it affects us. However, International disasters aren't nearly as important to the everyday citizen. I am the only one my teacher recommends for extemporaneous speaking, basically forming a speech on current events, because I'm the only one who is interested in current events in the world. Americans are pretty self-centered. They only care about what affects their little world. Even local isses are of low importance if it doesn't affect them. |
Papaveri 8/14/10 . chapter 1I absolutely love that times when I'm looking for something and I stumble upon a jewel that has little to do with my original search.
I usually prefer Toris and Alfred in a light-hearted, everyday-scene-like story, but that was just wonderful. I mean, I love that dark side you portrayed, and the atmosphere. And the ending is perfect. It shows the obvious separation there is between them -the ending and that "Toris was an amazing employee, but he was not a friend" one-liner.
And some reviewer said this before, but you don't have to apologize for rich vocabulary. I know it can make the reading difficult, but you used it well.
I'm so adding this to my favs. I'm all for that impressive one-shots :)
P.D: And the classical semi-disclaimer note: English is not my native language. Sorry for the occasional mistakes! |
SilverMoonPhantom 6/19/10 . chapter 1Yea. I agree that there was a few too many OMG words for be to read and be completely comfortable with it.
Mostly in the first two paragraphs, but after that it relaxed into more informal language.
So it's all good, I guess.
History-wise, I can see your point in this story. Too often do the history books skim over the negative points of the past, in favor of glorifying the nation. |
ThexLastxPiece 6/11/10 . chapter 1Honestly, this is one of the most well-written and beautiful stories I have ever read. I'm really not sure what it is that makes me love it so much, but I can't help it. This is amazing! :D |
TouchMyDrill 5/17/10 . chapter 1Oh man, I love less-happy twists on perfect seeming scenarios, and you did it so accurately
I seriously love this fic. You write absolutely beautifully |
KIS'E'productions 5/8/10 . chapter 1I find that your mother is too hard on you, babe; WHAT SHE HAS DONE TO SUCH A BEAUTIFUL CHILD IS WRONG AND UNJUST AND hsadhdshg /flails
BESIDES THAT- I loved this. Oh, America. OH America, you are young, and I understand that, and you grew up too fast (Iggy was a good mum, so don't blame him), and you are drunk with your own power and can I understand that too. But that's not a good excuse to turn your back to the bad parts of your City Upon A Hill, kay?
GUUUH this hit me in the kidney in such a good way, love, because it's what I see every day. America IS a good country and I do love it with all my heart, but it has its bad, horrible, and ugly parts that we all pretend don't exist so we can all go pretending this is an utopia sent to us by God.
Tis not true, Al, and you should really see into it.
All in all, you have once again done me proud, love \o/ |
notanotherfanficauthor 5/7/10 . chapter 1This is a really outstanding and powerful piece of writing. I love your characterisation of both nations. I know this is set in the 20's and I apologise if I've made this review overly political but I can utterly relate to Toris' sentiments here. I recently visited America and was struck with sadness by many things I saw there and by the way that, from a foreigner's point of view, obvious poverty and injustice seems to be swept under the carpet of the national consciousness and buried in a circus of bright, colourful child-like patriotism. I think many of the points you make are still so very relevant to modern times.

Um...anyhow...

You have a great gift with language and your characterisations are spot on. I really hope you write more stories for the Hetalia fandom, as this is surely one of the best I've read. I adore it. |
roadrollered 5/7/10 . chapter 1Oh my goodness. I love your use of language and your understanding of proper grammar. Thank you for making my day :D
On the subject of the writing, I loved it! I think it's cool how you portrayed the darker side of Lithuania's outsourcing. I think that it probably was a mix of both good and bad; I agree that America wasn't exactly the most pleasant place then. However, for Lithuania, I'm sure it still was an improvement from the Soviet Union.
All in all, awesome job. :'D |
master of toast 5/6/10 . chapter 1First of all, never EVER appologize for having a good vocabulary and a strong writing style. You write extremely well and some of your lines were like sucker punches to he chest.
This fanfic is uttlerly amazing. You did such a good job creating a mood and tone. I love it. This is fantastic. |
