Now that, good people, is what a fanficton should be like, detailed, interesting, and all around awsome

A wonderful end to a fine pair of stories. I enjoyed this tale thoroughly. It seemed much more polished and refined than many other works of fanfiction, and it was both exciting and heartwarming to read. It's rare to come across something so pleasing. Thank you for taking the time and effort to write it and share it with others.

I played FF9 once, really quickly, and then never picked it up again. When I wrote "Duty and Honor," I had totally forgotten that Cleyra was destroyed. So I put up that disclaimer that says it's slightly AU...as if I did it on purpose. *laugh*

Now I find that I've completely forgotten that the Desert Star was reclaimed by the end of the game. *ponder* What was it anyway? A summon jewel, or just a materia-type thing?

Can I pretend that Garnet tried to use it as a regular magic item and that it overpowered her, necessitating Steiner's leaping in and shattering it with his sword in order to save her? Can I pretend that it was a summon stone and that once you've called the summon from the gem out to use as your own personal eidolon, the gem is worthless except as jewelry?

In any case, both Duty and Courage were spawned from Meriko's MISCONCEPTIONS of the game. *rolls eyes* If you watch the Fratley-leaves-Burmecia scene again you'll see just how WRONG my two fics are. *sobs*

Well, I've got to admit this is one of the best fanfics I've ever read. Love the story, and the characterization was dead on, except for the formality mentioned. Although from what few lines he has in the game, it does seem Fratley is rather formal. The journey itself is well done, though I would have wished for a few combat sequences. The interlude in Daguerro has a good pacing to it, just the way it should be done to reflect that the characters are there an awful long time.
The cliffhanger, and long wait before you uploaded the final chapter were more than a little maddening. Gah! Don't do that to your readers! It's mean!
All-in-all, I give it an enthusiastic thumbs-up, except for one tiny point.
...and I feel like a wretch for pointing this out...
It seems to me that if Cleyra still stood, Garnet/Sarah or Eiko, whichever of them ended up with it, would have simply returned the Desert Star (that's what it's called in the Key Item menu) to it's proper owners, just like the Falcon's Claw.
All right, call me horrible if you want to, but keep at it!

[AUTHOR'S NOTE] Well, FOUR MONTHS LATER... T_T I'm so sorry everyone for the delay. I re-wrote this chapter with six different storylines and hated it every time. Here's the seventh version, which was the only one I managed to complete. Hopefully it doesn't blow... ^^; I can't even read it anymore...this fic just ate my brain, I swear.
