Cool – I really liked this fic because it was short, effective, different and it got you thinking from the start. I totally did not anticipate that ending. I don’t agree with your author’s note, though. Janeway knows exactly what she has - that’s why she always fights so hard to protect it. Write on!

I'm pretty sure Janeway would have set the shuttle to self-destruct mode if that really happened. She could never survive without her ship and if she didn't kill herself right away, eventually the ever present guilt of not being there to die with them would surely have driven her to suicide. The captain goes down with the ship, remeber?
