I really like the way you touched upon the idea that Joe truly held tight to the idea that whatever they are doing in the town was right...at least until he met Janet. He strikes me as a lost soul, looking for a reason and a place to belong and obviously he's made some less than great choices, but hopefully he'll be redeemed!
