Really great fic. I must admit that ones set during Season 1 are my faves so I adored this one! Don't know how I missed it when you first posted it, after all, it was nearly a year ago!

No wonder we all miss those earlier seasons so much. I really, really, hope we have seen the last of the head-up-the-ass/overindulged-ego/or-whatever-the-hell-the-reason general bad-idea-all-around... *breathes*... okay you get the point. Anyway, I really, really hope we have seen the last of it as of the end of last season... and that season six is truly a return to the heart and soul of the show. We all miss it. It's obvious.

Sorry for ranting a little. It justs GETS to me when I read something like this, and it reminds me of how great the show is... and how unfortunate it is that anyone would mess it up.

What I'm really trying to say is that this was a terrific fic, in the portrayal of both Sam and Dean (which is what it's all about), in the description and details, etc. Thanks for a great read!

Really liked your description of Brian Luster (loved the ironic last name) in his dirty wife beater and overflowing jeans.

Aw, and I loved Sam's small, "No chick-flick moments, man." Sometimes, yeah, even in the worst of moments, just the quiet feels best and it ended up being a bit funny...

Then Dean finding Sam on the floor with the blood and the knife - man, I was expecting something like this, but yet was so surprised.

Loved Dean's hands rolling up into fists as he realized what he needed to do.

Loved the 'gut feeling' and then 'Sam's guts' - fantastic!

Awesome job! Intriguing and interesting and I thought the whole Tulka/Tulpa angle was fun and creepy!

I do, of course, love big brother Dean taking care of and injured Sammy. :) Angry, vengeful Dean is lovely as well.

I really liked this one, Kati. It's so nice to read stories from the earlier days, before all the rift stuff! This was one of my favorite parts:

"Oddly, it was this regressed kind of little brother he knew how to respond to most easily, the one that reminded him of their childhood, that wasn't a mystery of education and extra inches and dark secrets in his eyes. It wasn't hard to be gentle with this one as Dean squeezed his brother's arm and gave him a reassuring look."

I really liked that snapshot of Dean and his ability to relate to Sam-and the struggle to do so with a grown and changed Sam. Really nice job on this.

I completely loved it.

Great story! Very good monster, Sam discovers its nature even though badly injured, and Dean takes it out. Some great brotherly moments in there as well: Dean knows in his heart that Sam would not attempt suicide, and after he sneaks him out of the hospital Dean takes Sam to the Library of Congress to recuperate. He knows that Sam would be quite content to spend time there.

These are the kinds of fics I would love to see as episodes! Great MotW, great hurt/comfort (of course) and the banter at the end is a thing of beauty. I know it's likely wishful thinking, but I hope the writers of S6 take a page or two from this playbook. :)
