Internal monologue stories seldom work for me because they don't seem to really capture the mind of the narrator - they feel like more of the writer's thoughts than the character's.

But this one worked perfectly. The language actually did seem like things she would be thinking, especially the slightly off-kilter slide from one thought to the next. And isn't that what being overwhelmed by love/lust/hate is like?

Best of all, the writing itself is very vivid; even though it's mostly reminiscence, I can visualize the physical movements and expressions on faces.
