Maybe I really don't understand UK gun laws, but why does every story assume that John's gun is illegal?

So perfect. You nailed these two just how I love them...John being strong, worried, and a bit fumbley there at the end; and Lestrade trying to be all by the book but just liking those two pesky civilians too much to do anything but smudge that book's ink a bit.

what a neat little missing scene. It did occur to me that John's gun could be easily identified in a later case but I can just see Lestrade fudging the records for him.

The only thing that didn't ring true to me was the DI recognising the striations just by eye. the patterns are very complex; wouldn't running it through a computer database and matching it to the earlier unsolved murder work better? Lestrade could still have picked up on the same type of gun being used and then had them compared, but just remembering the pattern felt a bit of a stretch.

That said, I loved this story! Everyone was in character and the wistfullness of Sherlock vanishing was so clear. more please!

I like how Lestrade went in there all fired up, ready to confront John. I also loved the description of John's chilling calmness, and the way he lied terribly, since it's true to the character. The last two lines made me smile. Good old Lestrade!

brilliant, I loved this and the way that it showed Lestrades own brand of loyalty to Sherlock and Watson. I could really imagine this happening in the show, well apart from Sherlock being missing personally I'm still hopeing they will both get out fine and go on to chase Moriaty down, but I digress this was wonderfully written. Thank you for sharing it
