We don't often see anything from Corinne's POV, so this immediately caught my attention.
It's just too short.
I don't mean to be picky on every detail, but shouldn't she acknowledge that she's loved by BOTH her parents?-because she is. And Joel is only four years older than Corinne, so it's likely they played together, as children. But most importantly, Corinne attends school with girls from the same background as that which she comes from, so what would provoke feelings of inequality? (I believe she COULD feel that-anyone can-but I'd like to see some examples or more narrative to illustrate why she'd feel that.)
