Lovely and sad, and not at all out of character. I can see Maric stepping aside for Rowan and Loghain to be together, and I honestly don't see any way that either Rowan or Loghain would be willing to act on their feelings for one another in that context. That relationship triangle (or four-way thing - does that make it a square? - if Katriel is included) makes me feel sadder than anything else in all Dragon Age lore.

I particularly love the ending line. The last bit where Loghain is all "just take your wife and go" before thinking "and I need to return to mine tonight". Beautifully done.

Aw, poor Loghain...that whole situation with Rowan is so difficult and I'm glad that he continued to do the right thing on that front. The situation with the elves really is depressing and I don't blame Maric for trying to forget all about it.
