This is interesting because Sam is examining his path throughout the series and it made me realize: for all the talk about Dean trusting Sam, Sam has never really trusted Dean. From the pilot forward, Sam has been keeping secrets from him, never trusting him to know the full truth. The visions were the beginning of Sam lying by omission, projecting his own fears onto him and using it as a reason not to trust him, and it only grew worse from there. No matter what steps Sam takes to regain Dean's trust, he sabotages himself by lying to Dean "for his own good." The spoilers for season 6 are the latest reason why Dean can't trust Sam-if Sam doesn't trust Dean enough to tell him he was alive and make his own choices about what's best for himself, how (and why) should Dean do the same?
