Because, you know, he didn't. Unlike Sam, Al doesn't see any difference between his heart's desire and his friend's. He didn't ask Sam to do anything for him that he wouldn't (and didn't) do for Sam. Twice, yet. And that is why I love Al.

This is a good character sketch of Al, All the more meaningful given the final episode. Written by someone who understands the series.
