| Hiro-tyre 2004-06-23 ch 1, | abuseLovely. There's usually all this misconception about Finarfin being this...weasel... or something... which is more or less unjustified. He just has different strengths. Of which this is. I love it. Finarfin is a great father. I shall nitpick here as well. You state that you don't want to use Artanis or Nerwen for Galadriel, and although I personally prefer to see the correct names given during a specific time period, I suppose you're withing your rights. Tolkien, after all, did Sindarinize his names in the Silmaillion. Likewise, I will not nitpick about Arafinwe, aka Finwe Arafinwe, aka Finarfin. Hey... you want to nitpick my Galadriel peice? Go ahead. Fair game. |
| jojo11 2004-06-06 ch 1, | abuse“I pity those who cannot see that your beauty is the least of your gifts. |
| Tinuviel-luthien 2003-12-28 ch 1, | abuseGreat story! You've protrayed Galadriel's frusteration perfectly, while creating an excellent story. Good job! |
| faerie padawan 2003-02-07 ch 1, | abuseI LOVE it! I like the idea of Galadriel not happy with being the most beautiful elf because her beauty is so emphasized. Yeah Finarfin rocks. |
| faerie padawan 2002-12-16 ch 1, anon. | abusehey thats a great story cause it's very rare that you see a young galadriel story:) |
| Indille 2002-11-06 ch 1, | abuseAh! I love such Galadriel stories as these. You depict her in the way that she must have been- an exceptionally talented young woman sick of having people see nothing but her face (or hair, as the case may be...) And, of course, the mental image of Feanor "begging" Galadriel for a lock of hair sends me into insane giggles every time I read Unfinished Tales... I know somebody's already said something along this line, but after reading UT and going back and seeing GIMLI getting it... even more giggles. Beautiful writing, definately. |
| Staggering Wood-Elf 2002-08-31 ch 1, | abuseI'm glad I found this story. Aw, Finarfin is such a good daddy :). And it's nice to see Galadriel portrayed as a bit more "real". Lovely writing. And sometimes short stories are best... |
| Isilendil 2002-08-16 ch 1, | abuseI say you add more chapters to this story! I really loved it! I think you should expand it to the theme of Galadriel's coming of age and acceptance of herself as well as Feanor's and Celebrimbor's love for her. Wicked good! I'd wish you'd go on! |
| naltariel 2002-05-13 ch 1, | abuseI dont believe i haven't actually given you review for this one! Oh I LOVE LOVE LOVE the way you describe young Galadriel, so cute!!! and feanor... sigh... who could blame him anyway. she is so cute and so proud and so pretty. I blame Tolkien though. lol. I blame my young Legolas. OK, i admit, my story of Legolas being infatuated with Galadriel was inspired by this fic. I have read this one LONG ere I logged in under this pen name. Good luck on your writing. I am always behind you. :) |
| Nessamelda 2002-03-28 ch 1, | abuseI really enjoyed this one too. I love the way you portray Galadriel and the dialogue between her and Finarfin. It's nice to have some stories from the Simarillion. Thankyou again for putting Finarfin in it again as I had trouble imagining him when I read Simarillion and this has helped! Please write some more! |
| NickelS 2002-03-20 ch 1, | abuse(I have to be the 12th reviewer, yea) This is a really cool ficlet (as one reviewer has already said). For someone trying to understand what Galadriel is really like, you sure seem to have a good grasp of it. ^_^;; Go Finarfin! |
| Woman of the Dunedain 2002-03-17 ch 1, | abuseGreat ficlet. I love seeing what the powerful Elves from Lord of the Rings may have been like before. ^^ |
| Catchild 2002-03-13 ch 1, anon. | abuseI *would* say that your writing is beautiful, but after reading this, "beautiful" doesn't seem like much of a compliment! So, I'll just tell you what I really like about this storylet of Galadriel's early life. Firstly, I love your portrayal of Galadriel. She's realistic, a young, growing, and learning elf, not some sort of perfect goddess-in-training. Her difficulties are just a sort of sublime elven version of regular old growing pains. And I like seeing her in this more "human" (pardon the term) light (oh, pardon that term too.) Secondly, I want to give Finarfin a hug and tell him he's doing a great job of being a dad! He definitely seems to have the wisdom of years. And he loves his daughter for who she is, without her ever having to do anything "grand" in the larger scheme of things. Thirdly, I like the issue of beauty, that it's there, but it's . . . beauty, and nothing else. People will admire it, but it's a gift, not a talent, and it doesn't define who you are. Please write more! Please? If I ask really, really nicely? Pretty please? with sugar and whipped cream and sprinkles and a cherry on top? a blueberry? maybe two? |
| Honesty 2002-03-12 ch 1, | abuseI like this. The beauty question is always a vexed one - & without it, we are forced to ask, would Galadriel be considered so great as she is? Probably not - but that is more because it takes beauty for a woman's worth to be recognised. Ugh. That isn't really a review, & I'm not sure it even makes sense. Anyway. Love the way you deal with the Feanor thing (Gimli probably never realised *exactly* how lucky he was - but then he probably asked more nicely.) Love your style & approach to canon. I wouldn't have said Galadriel was particularly a Nerwen type, as we see her, though I suppose pulling down that tower in Mirkwood is rather a macho thing to do. |
| Le Chat Noir 2002-03-10 ch 1, | abuseI love this ! This is exactly as Galadriel must have been as young. You are really talented. |
