Great story. I hope you do more, seems like it could be a great arc.

Wow. I was kind of taken aback by the negative portrayal of Uhura. Although I guess part of that can be laid at the feet of the movie writers. They captured the character's empathy in the elevator scene with Spock although I know the romantic element turned off a lot of long time fans. But the first scenes with her (her friction with Kirk and her argument with Spock) gave a bad first impression to some viewers. I think male writers often have a hard time writing a strong female character without making her shrill or strident.

I think she was justified in calling Spock out on her ship assignment - if his sole reason for ignoring her qualifications was their relationship then that was as wrong as it would have been to give her a post she did not deserve. Yes, she stood up for herself. But she did not boast or brag endlessly about her abilities. When she was on the bridge and Captain Pike asked her about her qualifications - she told him what he needed to know and no more. She was obviously reluctant to make the other communications officer look bad (listen to her tone). It was Spock who sang her praises to his Captain and we know from his TOS portrayal that he gives praise rarely. Uhura was one of the few in the original series that he praised for her abilities.

Don't get me wrong - I was not a Spock/Uhura shipper before the movie. And I still reserve judgement on the movie-verse handling of this pairing. I can deal with the elevator scene (a private moment). I think they took things too far in the transporter room. And I find the relationship of teacher and student awkward. If they were going to go with the pairing they shouldn't have given them this morally problematic past.

Oh how I wish you would continue this as a series that explores the relationship between Sarek and Kirk; both as an observer, confidant, and admirerer but as someone who is willing to treasure Kirk. Basically one of those series which leaves Spock with the understanding that he has been deaf/dumb/blind to the enigma which is Kirk but has discovered he has made his bed and now must lie in it as he watches Kirk in a happy fellowship between Sarek & Spock Prime that he will now never share. However, if you should choose not to continue just know there is an avid reader who liked your story very much!

I thought that was a very nice story. I enjoyed both the growing relationship between Sarek and Kirk as well as Sarek not liking Uhura. It made for a refreshing change to a lot of the stories in fandom. Thank you for sharing :-)

Wow... OMG this was so beautifully written, I can't believe there is only ONE chapter! I love Sarek/Jim pairings, but they just seem so rare! I loved the setup of the story, because I thought it was genius how you had Jim and Sarek interact in the story, and dialogue between them was priceless! I especially loved that Sarek doesn't like Nyota, because in my opinion that's exactly how I see her personality! But what really struck a chord in me, is how you have Sarek's character down cold; he is still Vulcan, but after the tragedy he has faced he has become more open, and the ending was wonderful as well. I don't know if you had anymore plans for this story, but I would be so grateful if you continues it! This fic is truly great, and I would love to see how Sarek and Jim get closer into a relationship with each other, hmmmm, I wonder if Spock would then realize what he has lost. Anywhoo, I just wanted to leave a review, and thank you for writing this story- it's awesome!

Oh, go Sarek! :D I've always had a special place in my heart for Sarek and this just added more love into the mix. XD

Personally, I love stories where Sarek and Jim get close. I'd like to think that, after having a human for a wife, Sarek would be able to read and judge humans better than his son.

Brilliant, really well written. (Please get Kirk and Spock together). I also loved the way you wrote Uhura, too many authors make her into a Mary-Sue (aka Little Miss Perfect) and really she wasn't (none of the characters in ST 2009 were, Spock especially (he was a prick, until the end of the film)). More please :D

Using the tactic of 'turn Uhura into a bitch cos I am so determined that S/K will get together' spoils your story.

I enjoyed Sarek's musings and memories of Amanda. That was good. Your Uhura characterization was bad. I'm not a slasher, but I can read it especially pre-slash if the author doesn't twist canon to force it. You forced it badly, and it really ruined my enjoyment this story. I really have trouble imagining Sarek liking Kirk with his brash, man-whoring ways. I don't think he'd tell Kirk that his attack on Spock's control by bringing up Amanda was accaptable payback for what happened at Kirk's trial.

I really like this. Is there any chance of more chapters or a sequel? I would love to read more interaction between Jim and Sarek.

This is awesome! You should totally continue it. You could have Sarek could play matchmaker, or Spock freak out about all the time his father is spending with Jim. It would be hilarious!
