Lovely piece. Kaoru was indeed quite pathetic during the whole Kyoto incident. Other than that, though, I never really minded her.

Megumi, on the other hand... I love her. She is, without doubt, the strongest female character in all of RK. Tho she had her moments of weakness as well, she remains mature and dignified through it all. It's interesting to see how you depict her love for Kenshin.

GEEZ! I'm a 100% Kaoru fan, but that episode just irritate the heck out of me. Kaoru should have been more stronger than that. Eventhough, Megumi snapped her from her depression, I still don't like her. Heck, I could never like that woman, she also irritates the hell out of me.

Ah... this is good! I have also written a Megumi introspective fic while she was watching Kaoru sniveling, but it was for another reason I really loved the way you showed how strong Megumi actually is in this fic, and how much stronger he experience has made her. She may only be a couple years older, but in wisdom, she looks like a sage compared to Kaoru's childishness. The part where she explains what is "love" is very good. you are not an untalented hack as you lovingly describe yourself, you are actually very good in introspect. Do keep on writing, untalented as you think you may be, you will always have this shmuck reading your stories Hasta!

*grabs author by the shoulders and shakes excitedly* finally, someone shares the same frustration I had during the whole moping-around scene! I frankly detest Kaoru, and I was immesnsely annoyed at her self-centeredness...hell, was that scene actually supposed to evoke a sense of pity for Kaoru? I was practically aching to jump into the screen and slap some sense into the girl!

Well, no flames on this end. I do like Kaoru, but her attitude in ep 32 did bother me, and I really liked the way Megumi (almost literally) slapped her out of it it made me like Megumi quite a lot more that I previously did. And your fic did that too. I say, go for the alt. pairing, some of us are actually very tolerant of them.)

Solid fic. Although I love Kaoru, I do think the "moping" scene and the anime seems really out of character-Watsuki sensei had Kaoru apologize and be really embarassed about her behavior, later (apparently, he had a lot of annoyed fans on his hands...). But when you think about it, afraid-of-straitforward-non-manipulative-conversation Megumi is just as "ooo let me smack her please" frustrating and immature in ways. Watsuki wasn't much on deeply layered wise female characters, apparently.*sigh**

OMG! I really really like this fic! I agree, the most frustrating thing in all of RK is KAORU! I think Megumi was probably really thinking things like these during that scene. You have to keep up the good work! More RK fics! (Geez, this review sounds kind of disjointed...)

very good piece of writing. I like it, to me Megumi is very complex person. I feel that she should have had a bigger part in the series but after Kyoto she just sort of faded away. If you were interested there is a challenge for people to write stories about Sano's wandering when he left Japan. just a thought. thanks for sharing your story...
