Esmerelda Diana Parker 1/8/11 . chapter 4is itr wrong i kept laughing at hanky-panky? and the new chaperone reminds me of the maid from Robin Hood Men In Tights (the parody robin hood)! I LVOE IT! oh i can't wait for the next installment! |
Astro Latte 1/8/11 . chapter 4I LOVE this story! I'm so excited you updated! This may seem like I'm sucking up, but reading this fic inspired me to write Spilitends - my own Tangled fan fiction - and it's nearing its 100th review (i'm freaking out a bit ahaha) and I just wanted to say thank you for writing such an enjoyable story. Keep going, I'm really excited to see where it heads! :) |
Lizzie 1/8/11 . chapter 4 Ooh, Eugenes in trouble now! A chaperon? Brilliant. And I totally loved "hustling" math lessons out of somebody. Hilarious. Please continue! |
pickle toes -not signed in 1/8/11 . chapter 4 The long wait was worth it. This. Is. Brilliant! |
Honey Bee 4-ever 1/8/11 . chapter 4I absolutely LOVE this story! It's probably the best Tangled fanfic that I have read :-) |
Happy Endings for All 1/8/11 . chapter 4This chapter was amazing! I especially loved the bit about Flynn being smarmy because Eugene didn't know how to respond to kindness (though I kinda want to know what the smarmy remark was, haha!). The chaperon is going to be interesting, I know it. Everything is so well-characterized and spot-on, I adore it! I really can't think of anyway to make it better, so sorry for the lack of concrit. Update soon! P.S. I reviewed this story as "Fitzwilliam" before I made an account. And yes. As in Darcy. :D I love you for knowing that. |
Guest 1/8/11 . chapter 4 "And Flynn gave some smarmy answer because Eugene hadn't yet figured out to respond to kindness." is a truly heartbreaking line. It's so sweet and sad and true. This chapter would have been good just for that one line, but everything else was great too. I enjoy how you show Eugene's focus on Rapunzel. I'm talking about stuff like having him note how Rapunzel's mannerisms are cute when she's thinking, and that's why he's all for watching her play chess. Then you go and actually show some mannerisms. Her legs swinging and absently making chords with one hand. It doesn't just make Rapunzel more real (though it totally does do that). It makes how Flynn feels about Rapunzel more real, and that's got some power to it. And she beat a seasoned chess aficionado while playing black? Zam! that's some cool stuff. Scummy that the math teacher forced her to play black, but totally sweet that she rocked him through that handicap. The dress scene was really interesting to me because I felt you were doing a great job, but some of the incidental strengths of the movie actually detracted from the themes you were building. On the one hand, it makes sense that Gothel's passive aggressive psychological abuse of Rapunzel would extend to her clothing choices, and it's heartwarming to see Flynn helping her overcome that by taking her shopping. (Super extra props since "makeover" scenes are usually so shallow and emotionally vacant, where here it makes sense and has good emotional resonance.) On the other hand, the costumes in the movie were so good. There was so much attention to detail and they were just so beautiful that it made the scene a tad odd. Because while I was melting at the sight of Flynn standing right behind Rapunzel in that changing room and helping her see she's an adult who can do whatever she wants, a little part of me is going, "But Rapunzel's dress in the movie was awesome." Also, Rapunzel is fully capable of creating her own dresses. I wonder if she'll do that later. Having Rapunzel learn math is brilliant. Math makes things better, and the movie clearly shows that Rapunzel is a genius. And it hints that she has studied some math. (Pascal's name.) I suppose she could have just read his philosophy, but come on. Math. Lastly, I am honored that you would mention me in the author's notes. I think it's cool that you do that, though I really hope this story doesn't get in trouble for it. This website can be arbitrary sometimes. Happy writing. |
kidwithwingz 1/8/11 . chapter 4this is a wonderful story! You really capture Rapunzel's innocence and Euguene's softness. I am always anticipating the next chapter. :) |
ProfessorSpork 1/8/11 . chapter 4Oh my god, I think this installment may have just cemented this story as my favorite multi-chaptered Tangled fic. You know what? I know it did. You just GET them. Amazingly. And intuitively. A lot of writers latch onto Eugene, because he's a recognizable case- he's the storyteller, and he's the lovable rogue. But he's MORE than that, and you write him with so much depth and warmth. His wit comes from a genuine place. (Oh dear lord, the best friend threat? "I like rhubarb. Do you like rhubarb?" SLAYED ME.) And *Rapunzel.* No one writes Rapunzel like you do. You UNDERSTAND her. It's so easy to see how bright she is, and let that be ALL she is. But there's a major difference between a ditz and a spaz, and you've just... nailed it. Her moods, her seriousness, her brilliance. The scene with the guitar? I reread it like five times before I moved on. I just. I can't say enough nice things about this. I adored this chapter. I heard Mandy and Zach in my head without even trying, and that is RARE. And the DIALOGUE. It's such a fine balance, their colloquialisms and how young she seems, to have them be casual without being modern. "Screamed in delight? Screamed like 'yay?'" "Screamed like 'ah!'" Perfection. I WANT TO PRAISE YOU MORE BUT I DON'T KNOW HOW TO DO IT WITHOUT GOING OVER EVERY LINE. The *dress.* Her not wanting red because she was taught she couldn't. "She felt amazing, so soft and alive in his hands." Gorgeous, gorgeous, gorgeous. So, y'know. Kind of looking forward to the next chapter. Or something. |
mandymuggle 1/8/11 . chapter 4This is my favorite Tangled fanfic! You write Eugene and Rapunzel PERFECTLY. Omg. I love it! 3 :D |
thumbelina.rocks 1/8/11 . chapter 4Loved it! Keep up the good work and please update again soon! |
Airplane 1/8/11 . chapter 4!MATH! *ahem* excuse me Math with a jerk is decidedly less cool than math with a not-jerk, but maybe he'll come around and see Rapunzel as his star pupil and he'll learn a lot and she'll learn a lot and it will be the best thing ever! *deep breath* Excuse me again. This was amazing as always, and hey, I made the AN. Sweet. Now I'm determined to have a pretty woman feed me pie, even if it involves me baking it first, so I'm going to go get on that. |
RainbowPoniesAndShit 1/8/11 . chapter 4Oh goodness this is amazing! I love how you stayed true to the characters but still had them adjust and change to the real world. Seriously. Amazing. :) |
